Industry News: Philips Returns to Australia
- Saturday 23rd July, 2011
After an hiatus from the Australian mobile electronics scene that has been far too long, Danish brand Philips Car Audio returns to our shores with a completely revamped range encompassing source units, amplifiers, speakers and subwoofer systems.
Those of you who’ve been around for a few decades will remember that Philips produced some of the most under rated gear on the market in the late ‘90s, and most notable were their speaker sets that offered excellent value for money and sounded better than most rivals at the same price. The brand’s image is less shouty and extroverted than their Japanese rivals tend to be, with Philips preferring more understated approach to their appearance.
Perusing the new dedicated Australian website www.philipscaraudio.com.au reveals a few gems that are definitely worth auditioning – especially if you are on a tight budget and are looking for great value for money. The Philips range seems to be aimed squarely at the affordable end of the market, and most notable are the $189RRP 6.5-inch 2-way components known as the CSP650. These are descendents from the popular and great sounding GTM range that forged Philips reputation in Australia for solid no-nonsense performance.
Another stand out item is the new CID2680 A/V receiver with built-in navigation and Bluetooth for just $1495, which at that price makes it the most affordable multi-media sources on the market housing these two key features. It also boasts niceties such as Divx support, USB and SDHC slots, rear view camera mode and in-built steering wheel control interface for cars with resistive type control systems.
You can check out the latest Philips Car Audio ranges at autoBarn, Auto Pro stores, and at various specialist retailers across Australia.
