News: Shok Industries Ventures into Amplifiers

So you know the drill, at a young age just before you get your first car you lay awake at night dreaming of all the mods and upgrades you will make to your ticket to freedom. Russel Wong from Singapore was no different to any of us except, he dreamt BIG!

Russel Wong is a 28 year old Civil Engineer from Singapore. Only a couple of years ago I recall some emails back and forth with Russel, and his grand plans to start and build a car audio company. His own, this company/brand would be known as Shok Industries.

Now let me put this in perspective. We get emails like this every day here at MEA, from young new distributors for every brand under the sun, to guys just like Russel with grand plans just like what you are reading about here.

You see, there are not many new brands in car audio these days. Most have been around since the late 80's having started up when car audio emerged as an industry. Most of the brands around today are reincarnations of those same companies, having changed hands a few times, put on the shelf for a few years and then resurrected some time later. Shok Industries is far from one of these.

Proving to be immensely resourceful, this entrepeneur set out with a goal in mind, and that was to deliver an affordable range of products under the Shok brand name, that he could call his own. He poured hours into forums literally all around the world talking to, and getting to know those that would ultimately be using his products. From cables to wiring accessories, to more recently speakers and amplifiers. This direct communication with the consumer, in my opinion is one of the keys to the early success Russel is experiencing with his company. After dealing with some of the largest manufacturers and companies in this global industry for some years now, I have a fair understanding of how and why a product is developed and released to the market. This is where Russel can focus on an area of the market however. Pitching his products predominantly towards the SPL and Groundpounder markets, his niche is small but real. Take up from consumers is certain and he uses this success with each product to invest back into the business, further develop the product range and in turn, continue to grow the company.

As a true enthusiast, he understands and is in touch with the market. Sure, he doesn't have the overheads, the staff and a marketing department. This is a one man show relying almost exclusively on word of mouth. This unpaid news piece is a perfect example though. We've taken notice and believe Russel Wong and Shok Industries and what he has achieved in just a few years is remarkable and worthy of mention. Smart, streamlined business operations running with extremely tight budgets is likely what will stand the test of time in an ever changing global economy and marketplace and so far, Russel is showing us all how it can be done.

The latest venture for Shok Industries is into the amplifier market.

Details and specifications are still unknown to the general public at this point, but Russel has released a video on the production of the first amplifier to wear the Shok badge.

I take my hat off to you Russel and continue to watch your journey. Keep doing what you are doing and follow your dream.
