$3700... I doubt he likes blowing that much (pun intended) . I'd love one as it would blend in perfectly with my stock system.

I agree with everything that the overlords have stated within this thread. I found myself in the same situation not so long ago when I was on the market for a so called "highend" head unit and I picked up my DXZ925 for a touch over $1000 installed, and I'll tell you what my friends, I have never heard an adition to my system that truelly reaped such significant rewards, I was truelly awe struck, so invest wisely in your HU and you shall be pleased. Other than that the lads have given you a good short list to work from, any of the decisions you make from this list will be a wise one.

mmm, yes, with your setup of speakers and amps, you would get the best from such a HU.

re the Nakamichi CD700

I thought about putting it on the list till I remembered how much it was ....
Micheal from MaroochyCarSound had one in his Lexus IS200 - definately the best headunit I've ever heard (geez that car had a sweet system) but lets face it - its a hell of a lot of money . If you can find a 7909 they are a great HU .

I understand Drew at Northfield Moorooka has a couple. Whether he wants to sell them is entirely another question.......

Don't forget the good ol' 7939 Alpine unit. Should only be around $400 these days and often overlooked because it lacks flashing lights and dancing girls. A mate of mine has one and I personally think the bigass volume/etc knob looks tough

Denon DCT-Z1, Nakamichi CD-700, McIntosh MX-406, Clarion HX-D1, Clarion 9255, Alpine F1, etc would be on my list, but you would have to be lucky to keep to your $2k budget for some of them!

I have try HX-D1 before. it does sound great but not as natural as 7909. Mcintosh mx406 Urrrrrr better buy a 9255 exl. CD700 sound a bit too flat. Denon DCT-Z1 and Alpine F1 never try before so no comment. I belive that sony RMX-2 + Nakamichi cdc-111 + soundstream DA20 E + rockford EPX-2 will make a killer HU
