absolutely nothing wrong with that. they're very decent splits, so should sound nice.

what type of car? sedan/hatch/wagon, and parcel shelf or doors?

like any speakers installation, ensure they're solidly mounted with no gaps around the edges or nearby (that would affect midbass performance). sound deadening will help.

experiment with the tweeter position, but given it's for rearfill, it won't be critical for SQ purposes as you'll probably fade heavily towards the front.

hmmm. there are two sides of the argument when it comes to rear fill, so ill bore you with both sides.

+. using a decent pair of 6 inch two way speakers is about the ultimate in rear fill speaker set ups. pretty much perfect as long as you drive the speakers properly, say a small 20-30 watt amp and install on a decently mounted parcel shelf. this level of rear fill set up is usually reserved for extreme competition set ups.

-. blatent overkill. the purpose of rear fill is simply to provide over all sound stage ambience, not as a source of music directly. some people will tell you not to even bother with rear fill speakers at all, and mount those 175's up front where they belong. even those who will tell you to use rear fill will say to use a cheaper pair of coax speakers and run them from the head unit.

personally, im from the "+" side of the arguement. i use the alpine rca-692 6x9 reference speakers for rear fill run from a 25x4 amp (other two channels run my front tweets) but my system was set up to pwn the sound quality comps so i guess the bottom line is up to you. if your front stage is gunna make those 175's look pretty ordinary in comparison, then go for it. other wise put them up front and buy a pair of $99 coaxs and run them from the deck, or forget rear fill totally.

With regard to Rearfill, If i am running a 3way front stage, and have no rear output available, could i say use some splits or whatever and run another 4 channel amp off the High/Mid output (like you said 25x4 or similar) and run that fully active

what can i do?

sure, if the xover settings suit. there may be an issue of not being able to 'fade'.

if you're talking about using the alpine PXA-H700...well, i don't know it well enough to advise how to best configure its outputs.

depending on your amps, there may be RCA outputs on them that provide a full-range signal that could feed your rearfill amp. i think an active rearstage is definitely overkill!

So you would advise against a set of 165W Focal utopias for rear fill? Damn!
