Would this amp be as good as any other for $1000 (r.r.p.$1495) to run my Kef 6" splits active or should I buy something else. The spec. sheet claims 4x75WRMS @ 14.4V, 4x18WRMS @ 12.5V (IASCA/USAC) It's birth certificate states 2x261WRMS @ 14.35V All at 1%THD.On paper this amp doesnt seem to be much more powerful than my old Alpine MRV400 (4x60WRMS @ 14.4 @ 0.08%THD) But I expect in reality I probably shouldn't even compare them. Informed opinions very welcome.

i remember a while back, CAA Member Winno upgraded from an alpine V12 amp (F407 i think) to an older model PG 4-channel (ZX450??).

before the change, there was discussion about whether he should fork out the money for what looked like a very similar amp on paper, and i personally was sceptical of any significant improvement to justify the added change-over expense.

he subsequently went ahead, and low and behold, he found a significant, audible improvement in going with the PG. he was rapped, and i took that on board as another lesson never to judge a book by its cover (or component by its specs).

PG make excellent amps, and their titanium series are top notch. $1K seems like an excellent price for an excellent amp.

quite a few Members are starting to switch over to PG gear for want of something a little different and of audiophile quality. interesting.

another other amp that springs to mind as being of similarly high quality, is the audison LRx4.300, rated at 4x65WRMS into 4ohm at 13.8V. available from Web Audio Direct ). alternatively, look into a JL audio 75/4, or see what you can get a cadence A4 for. dls ultimate series amps are another great range.

That amp is one of the best....the only amp out of the many i have had that i regret selling was my old school ZX-450....bulletproof, bag's of grunt, refined and flexible what more could you want.....the ZX-475Ti is updated/ better if they can make em any better.....

You could do a hell of a lot worse than buying one of them......

Class amp a ZX475ti for sure, can't go wrong.
For mine, also look at the LRx 4.300 by Audison and the JL 300/4 as well as the DLS Ultimates.
All winners.

The ZX-475Ti is a pretty awesome amp to say the least. On paper it may look like many other amps out there but if you can have a listen to one in a car you'll see how good they really are. Bags and bags of grunt and a fluid, involving, natural, sweet sound quality. Nice transparent sound stage as well.
I know that there are many other good amps out there too and I still wouldn't mind trying out an Audison but they are not being imported here.

There are little differences between my ZX-450 and the 475Ti. The latter seems to have a little more sparkle at the top compared to the slightly laid back sound of the 450 and the 475 seems to also have better transient response and dynamics.
Given that in NZ a new 475Ti was selling for $2799, my second hand 450 at NZ$750 less the $600 I got for my F407 Alpine 18 mths ago was amazing value.

Something to watch out for is fan noise if you are using any of the new ZX's in the cabin. Anything after the ZX-450 v1 has a gruntier fan that is clearly audible if it's mounted in the cabin, say under a seat.

I believe that the ZX-475Ti at AU$1500 is great value. I'd go for one at that price if the opportunity came up here in NZ.

Stunning amp!

*smacks shiny on back of hand*

I think I like JL amps better than their subs, excellent things, much under-appreciated IMO....

I went into the store selling the P.G. a few days ago and asked them their best price. They said I could have it for $850 cash but by the time I got back with the cash they had sold it to someone else. I was pretty gutted.
Anyhow this morning I went to my brother's new workshop to give him a hand settling in and he asked me "Could you use this?" and he drags out this plain looking cardboard box and hands it to me. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a small P.G. logo on the box. I don't know how he knew I was even looking at it but cool hey!?

stoff My P.G. ZX475Ti is from the recently superseded ZEROpoint series and is similar to but different to the titanium amps currently on the P.G. website.
