Hey guys just wondering if you have different settings for different volumes that you play? Cause when i'm in a loud mood i have settings that tone down the tweets a little so they aren't so harsh...but at low volumes I have a 2nd set of settings to boost the tweets a little cause they are a bit soft at low volumes...
Does anyone else have this? Do you find yourself changing settings, like sub boost and cross-over freq while your driving to suit different songs...?
Let me know...
Cheers,
Joe

PS... For information I found a way to get rid of the harshness of tweets on Pioneers HU's. You have to go into the adv settings and change the slope to 1N or 2N.....it gets rid of the harshness.....sounds kinda warm and fuzzy now...woohoo!

what you are referring to in general is 'linearity'. the ability for a system to play both loudly and softly with the same spectral balance. that is, subass up to treble remain nicely balanced.

due to the nature of human ears and hearing, we are relatively insensitive to subbass and treble ast low volumes. this was why the 'loudness' function is found on HUs, to cope with low volume insensitivity of our ears, boosting subbass and treble.

which in turn means, if the treble is at a nice level at low volumes, as you turn it up, it will appear overly loud.

that being said, a top quality stereo should demonstrate very good linearity, and there should be no need to alter things on the fly. but who cares if you have to change things for your own liking.

i have 2 EQ presets that i mostly use. one is for engine-off SQ listening. the other is for daily driving. this has to contend with roadnoise and engine/car noise; as such, SQ goes out the window (or sunroof ), so i don't care so much. the EQ boosts subbass/midbass more than anything to help overcome the ambient noise, and i can crank it up for some fun on the road. top-end i leave alone for it isn't harsh in my setup fortunately.

Yeh this is one of the many reasons i am getting the CDA-7897. It has 6 options for Equalisation, and 6 for Time Correction.
You set them to your liking then all you gotta do is press the Eq button to select your desiered mode.

In mine i think i will have a setting for Pink Noise, Car off SQ, SQ, Normal Listening, Loud Street driving, and a spare if i ever come up with one

i imagine the TC choice will also be good to compare you settings to the RTA's choice.

Most ppl frig around with their bass treb when they want listening environment change to say Loud.
I was forever doing it with my 7892
