Focal Polyglass 27V Subwoofer

I have the opportunity to buy one cheaply ATM but need to know if it is one of the best choices for my install. With 6 ohm DVCs I would assume my MRV1000 will see a 3 ohm mono load. I hope this is O.K. The Focal spec sheet recommends a sealed enclosure 10-30L. Focal sell this driver in a 22L box. Would 22L give a Qtc of about .707?
If you love this sub please let me know as I only have a couple of days to buy it.

having auditioned his system, i can say the subbass is very gutsy and nicely defined. impressive.
i don't know the details of his amp's power or box design, but i'm sure he will be happy to offer advice.
i expect the MRV-1000 to cope with 3ohm ok. whilst it's rated to only 4ohm bridged mono, it should have no probs. it otherwise has good thermal protection (speaking from experience!). so at low~normal listening volumes, it should be fine. there may be overheating probs if you crank it really hard. i suggest adding a cooling fan if it's problematic.

for $500, some that spring to mind would include:
*PG titanium
*image dynamics IDQ10v2
*JL audio 10W3v2
* hertz air mille 2500: $535 + P&H from online store; these are very impressive in tiny sealed boxes, but do suck a fair bit of power (your amp would be fine); try 15L!
*alpine DDDrive DDW-F30A: nice SQ sub but not readily available anymore; low power handling means easy to get performing optimally (200WRMS i think)
*xtant 104 hexagonal: streetprice may be around $500
* DLS competition series (DLS W610 RRP$349) or magnesium series (DLS MW10 RRP$499)
plenty to choose from. matched with a well-designed and constructed box, you'll get very nice subbass.

Shiny - mine's actually a 33V 13" Sub and not the 27V 11" sub. I wouldn't say there'd be too much difference - but I went with the bigger is better theory.
GTS-t - My sub runs in approx 35l sealed box facing into the cabin of a VS Commodore. It's bridged to 3 ohms off 2 channels off a Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp. There are sometimes (ie 35c days) that I have a bit of trouble with the amp overheating while playing the system at full volume and I attibute this to the 3 ohm load. I also figure this could be fixed with a vented amp rack ... if I had time to build it
I don't think you can go wrong if you buy it - it delivers tight clean bass - and also hits pretty damn hard at the same time. It's not going to break any SPL records - but that's not the aim in an SQ sub.

but the sub does get some movement going, first time i saw it it surprised me quite a bit as i had assumed that it wouldn't tend to lend itself to excursion being an 'sq' sub, but i was wrong and it manages to belt kick drums and bass lines (lol) quite easily and sound excellent at the same time...nice sub

Would a Boston Pro 10.5 be a good choice? The bloke at Incar on the Gold Coast (Phil?) suggested I use the 12.5 in a box ported through the parcel tray. When I measured up I found it would be much easier to fit a 10" or 11" sub. Although S.Q.is my main objective I also need it to be quite loud because my car isn't the quietest.

I very much doubt you'll be disappointed - and at the end of the day you have a top quality sub at a low cost.
[edit...]
What sort of car is it?? Mine's in a VS Clubsport with a loud (read over legal ) exhaust on it and I'm still happy with the result.
[edit 2...]
I'm not thinking straight - hehehe - I guess it's a Skyline GTS-T - from your nick

I don't think your Alpine amp will have any troubles with it - as long as you don't ask too much of it - ie - play flat out all day.
I can only really give you my experience with it - but in the end there should be no problem.
