yes, the focal specs list the 27V as having an Re (DC R) of 2.6, which is suspect is with both coils wired in parallel.

the Re is always a little below the nominal impedence for any voicecoil, which in this case would be 6ohm per VC or 3ohm for parallel. you should still view this sub as a DVC (6/6ohm) 3ohm sub.

i cannot see a problem off the MRV-1000 either, except it may run slightly warmer than normal (it was never hot for me, only ever warm) and i guess possibly shut down if you crank it fullbore continuously. it certainly won't go into protection for normal use, and if you find it gets fairly hot then add a cooling fan to your setup (eg: 12V computer fan).

i still advise you to discuss this with the retailer and also get their assurance that there will be no probs. even test it with your amp before walking out of the shop.

good luck

thanx Stoked
shiny_car I asked the bloke at the shop for his opinion on resistance. He said he didn't know and wasn't prepared to help me find out "take it or leave it". I guess as the store closes tomorrow and he'll join the dole queue you can understand his apathy.
I'm sure this is a good sub but is there another that would please me more?

what's your budget? i gather you weren't going to pay anywhere near the RRP of the 27V which is close to $500.

I'm sure there is - but they'll cost you a stack more than what you are paying for the Focal.

I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed if you just go out and buy the sub. And at the price youre getting it at - there won't be anything better in that range.

Stoked The old sticker on the box said $575. A week ago he said he wanted $400 but tomorrow they close for good. I was going to go there in the morning and offer them $300 cash which I think is reasonable for a superseded model. I don't have money to burn but if I spend money on something that I think could be better then I will have wasted my money so I guess I'd spend what I have to on a sub that can give it's best with 400WRMS.

I didn't get the Focal. Someone working at the store took it for themselves so now I'm looking at my other options. I need to buy a sub as soon as possible so I can start fitting my system.

for around $400, you'll get something very good:

*alpine SWR-1021D type-R
*JL audio 10W3v2: bargain hard..maybe?
*PG Ti10 titanium series: top reputation, so another good choice; available from online store

your MRV-1000 would drive any of these subs extremely well.

good luck
