Personally i'd go for the Kicker L7, they're the best sounding 10 i've ever heard, as critter suggested, perhaps an "acquired taste" but they're so brutal for such a little thing, im constantly suprised at the sound commin out of what is such a small sub, however if u're limited @ 400w it may not be enough to do the kicker justice.. they tend to perform best with a whole a55load of power

I woulda got one, (my GF has 2 ) but i fell in love with audiobahn..

hee, hee, probably. i think fudd built the box according to what i recommended him, but i can't remember what that was! except the box looks bigger than my 1.2cuft one, so maybe it's 1.5~1.8cuft. i'm sure he'll let us know (or i could replot the specs...).

I haven't really set a price limit although I expect to spend maybe $500-$750.
ah, sweet. i thought from another thread you were capped around $500.

hmmm, xtant hex looking better by the minute.

or else a JL 10W6v2 if you can find one cheap.

a cheap sub i was a huge fan of was the focal 27V, i had that before my eclipse 88100DVC and utopia ...

was pretty damn good, i would almost go as far to say as i prefered it for some styles of music !!!

have you tried alpine type r at that price point too ??? people may say they are not the best sq sub blah blah blah, but if you want to be honest and think about it, the mick rigney (think thats how it is spelt) took pro class in the caa soundoff using two of them ... so seriously have a look at those too

shiny_car That $500 thread was posted by stoff. It would almost be a crime to mount a Hex behind the armrest where nobody can see it. I suppose it doesn't matter too much what it looks like. I might go the IDQ but I'm not sure about the power handling. I might upgrade the MRV1000 to a P.G.Ti amp to match my front stage amp so my new sub might need to handle a little more power later on. For brand loyalty sake I like to hear a P.G.Ti10. and the Eclipse subs. Who sells them in Bris. G.C. area? Ideally I'd like to hear these in a car.

clinker Did you see my thread "Focal Polyglass 27V" I missed out on that one. Have you installed the Eclipses yet? I'd love to know how they sound as I recently bought an Eclipse CD8051 headunit.
I,ve heard the Type'R's. They go lower and louder but didn't sound as musical as my old ZR.

How much power does an XTant Hex need?

the X104 (10" hex) is rated at 500WRMS power handling.

that's the same as my polk audio 12". i must say that on changing subamp from an alpine MRV-1000 to the audison VRx1.500 monobloc...it was a significant improvement in performance. this suggests to me that a gutsy monobloc will be better to get the best from a power-hungry sub. to GTS-t...if you can change to a PG Ti monobloc you'll be laughing (obviously match the impedence, so the DVC version may be best).

yeah, the eclipses sound pretty damn good !!! a different sound from my 27w, but i would not say they are bad by any means !!! they are very punchy, and dont tend to favour any particular frequency and as such crank along quite nice to any sort of music ... muchus happyius plus they crank a little harder then the single utopia !!!

and if you really want the focal, you do realise that you can still get the old 27v from dealers brand new ??? even if the current shop you shop at sold out, they can still actually source them !!!
