With all my probs and the fast approaching work 2 B done on my car 4 the umpteenth time, I have felt my system 2 much SPL. My front stage doesn't seem 2 provide enough "musical" sound and 2 much bass. Is there an easy way 2 fix this or does it require a change of components?

I guess age changes one's taste from SPL 2 SQL...

sell one of ur boston and bridge one of the amp for splits only. now front:sub power ratio is 1:2, much better for SQ

I suppose I could get rid of the middle sub that appears thru the ski port, but wouldn't I have 2 change the size of the sub enclosure? Won't that affect the SQ of the subs? Both amps R 4 channel bridged 2 2. One amp runs 2 subs, the other amp runs the third sub and the front splits.

Any other thoughts or am I stuck?

Turn the subs down!

Problem solved!

Or if you want more power for the front, change one of your 4244 for a small mono block that will handle 1.33 ohms (Audison, Signat, Dragster etc) and bridge the other 4244 for the front.

This will increase the output from 2x60 to over 2x150 for the front, which will make a considerable improvement.

Id never thaught id hear Phil sujesting to turn somones subs down!

But he is right on the money. More power to the frontstage is allways benificial, with increased dynamic headroom and often stronger midbass output.

If it was simply a "too much bass" problen, just turn tha gains down.

But it sounds like you want a whole new front stage?

Been toying with the thoughts of changing the front stage, but only if it's worth the $$$. U C, my $5000 system is now rounding the $7500 mark without any change 2 the actual components. More like $2500 of fixing $$$...

Well I see getting more power to the front being a good thing, but it won't really make that much difference... I dont think it will make the difference you want it to make anyways...

The Thunder 8000s aren't a bad speaker for the money, but you can certainly go alot better.

Maybe look at using the MTXs as rears and put something sensational up front.

Phil

PS How on earth did you spend $2500 on a battery and Dynamat?????

Oh, and as for me recommending turning subs down, I'd always turn the subs down if the fronts end can't keep up.

There's nothing worse than a flat, bass heavy system. That said I still reckon you need at least 2000W for subs, with another 1000W+ for the front stage.

you sound like Tim the Tool man phil..."More power!!"

You will definately need more power to the front stage and gains can be had by spending little to nothing! Try playing around with the phasing of the subs in relation to the mids to take some of their boom out, or the phase of the tweets in relation to the mids as this can affect imaging a fair bit

What sort of box do you have now? Maybe try going for a smaller sealed box to increase SQ. You could get rid of 1 sub but it isnt necessary...only do it if you need some cash for the front stage

What about installing a more efficient pair of front speakers, eg, horns? You can keep the same amps, keep your subs turned up to the threshold of pain and your front stage will keep up. Just a thought. (they say those Image Dynamics horns are pretty good............)

The new mini horns are very compact, in fact they are only 122mm deep at the deepest point, the compression driver and the mouth is 53 mm deep and the width can be adjusted to suit any car, within reason. Having said that, I know some cars just don't suit horns, but it is probably worth breaking out the tape measure!
