Heya all

After learning lots about car audio on my TX5 im determined not to screw up my new system.

Im basically starting from scratch, except for the headunit.

The HU is a JVC SH985, and has served me quite well over the past year.

The SX already has sound deadened doors with 6.5" speaker mounts in there.

What setup do you guys think i should go?

This is what i was thinking:
HU: JVC 985
FS: Hertz 6.5" 3-way, or Cadence 6.5" 2-way splits (ZXN-651)
RS: Midprice 5" 2way coaxials
Sub: Midprice 10"
Amp: Cadence 2x60w or similar.

What do you guys think, changes anyone?
Im not looking to pay through the teeth for this setup, but rather just get something which will sound good and not blow my budget out of the water.

Cheers guys

Hey,

Whats your MAXIMUM TOTAL budget on the system, that will give us and me a better idea of what we working with!

How much are the Hertz & Cadence splits? Ive got Focal Polykevlar 165K2's which i bought for $600 cash, there good speakers. I would concentrate on getting a good front stage in any case.

Apart from that i cant really comment unless i got a budget. Let us know. Cheers Mate

Ok, ill go have a look at BDL today.

Currently my budget for the front stage is under $1000, with a bit of extra in there for a small rearstage.
Subs havnt been budgetted yet.

Oh yeah, my preferred music is melodic punk or soft rock, so nothing woofy for subs there.

The TX5 is still going, except im either selling it to a mate or using it only for offroad stuffs.
The problems i had there was that i had a HUGE rearstage and no frontstage, really screwed up the imaging.

Ok, i have to decide between the Focals or Cadences today, and buy an amp to power them.

What SQ amp would you guys reccomend, keeping in mind price and weight too.

Cheers

EDIT: I have to now, the gift voucher which i have expires tomorrow. I have two, one for JB and the other for BDL, but i can only use one.

Well i got the Focal Polyglass 165Vs as my splits. I had a good listen to them and felt that they had the edge over the Cadences.
As for the amp im having an Eclipse EA2212 brought in on Monday which i got 50% off on.

Now to install it.

The good old BDL sale...some great stuff on sale there ATM

The focals should sound very impressive in the deadened doors!

Really nice to see that there are so many Canberra people on this forum, its kinda rare elsewhere.

get a pair of dyns u wont regret it.
i used to own a pair of focal utopias but they were not as smooth as the dyns.
If u want to push the envelope, use scanspeak tweeters revelator 99, its performance is as good as the supremo but not as dear

Alright, now almost everything is installed and just the rears to wire up. But im having a couple of problems.
Firstly the Focals sound a bit washy in the doors, and really bright because of the temporary tweets position. So im thinking more sound deadening is in order there.

But the biggest problem is my 88dB exhaust, it really overrides everything else. Kinda annoying.
I may just go for a 10" for some low bass instead of relying on the Focals.
Sounds sweet for midbass though.
