I was thinking of getting a pair of 8" subs for laser TX3. The front stage will consist of 5 1/4" splits (yet to be installed)

Any thoughts?

are u talking about make a 3 way F/S?
It may be ok just you will probably have to make large build outs for the magnet on the sub.

make sure the door is fully sealed.

ok 8" SUBS are kinda hard to get to sound good.

i would be looking at a pair of them in a nice ported box around 40Hz.

I keep blowing single 8"s due to the fact they dont really get loud on there own but a pair has much more of an impact

8" subs work out really well...I've done 3 8's in both a 2002 WRX STI and also a 2002 200sx...I used 3 8 ohm Rockford Punch HE's in a sealed tri chamber box about 1.5 cubes in the rex and powered them off 200rms and they came out brilliant...got pretty damn loud for 8's and had great sound quality...the 200sx I used a common chamber box due to lack of room and ran them off about 350 rms...same subs and that came out great too...it's all down to enclosure and installation...

Go a single 10inch. It will be cheaper and have better bass for the money.

$400 ccan get you a very high quality 10inch sub that will take lots of power and sound very tight.

I have Alpine Bass Eights in my doors;

the entire door is MDF and fibreglass/MDF pod. At the moment I'm giving them from 80 to 600hz, via two channels of one of my MFV-F407's (this one does 63wrms @ 12v on it's cert)

Alot of music will use them eq anything acoustic or rocky like INXS, but alot of music won't do much with them either, eq rap styles like 2Live Crew. I'm playing with frequencies and doing alot of testing and havn't made my mind up on frequencies but it all depends on the car.

the eight's sound good on their own if you're not a bass head. as for me?

I want it all- bass, mid... the lot.

That said, if you go for 15's in a big box like me, it's a big jump to a set of splits...

bang for buck would be a good twelve in a solid box but it depends on the system you want to end up with- buy what will be there when you complete it. it's expensive to buy and sell stuff.

good 8inch free airs- I liked the Pioneer and Kenwood ones, the kenwoods have grilles too. from memory they both sell for 300 a pair.
Kicker make nice 8's as do JL. only thing is that they're all polyprop-stuff. Really it depends on the budget, amp, box and your expected output too. Not sure what these sell for but I've seen Straties sellin em for 300 odd a pair on Sale...

Alpine don't seem to do these on any of their ranges here or O/S, but the one's I have work well, they are a thick lumpy paper style, like Soundstream woofers.

If only Soundstream made Exact 8's...
