hi all, my prob is that since installing the basics of my SQ setup, i have noticed a whining sound that changes pitch as the engine's revs change.

i have a feeling that this is the result of a ground loop, but have no idea how to pinpoint or fix the problem.

it is a large setup and currently running off an NRMA 560CCA standard battery. 2GA power and twin 2GA grounds (one on the engine in the stock position and one on the chassi).

any advice for fixing the prob is greatly appreciated.

thanks, Dan.

make sure all rca's are on oposite side to power cables
ground all amps to the same spot using a nice big bolt
what deck are u running(sum times can be the cause)
shift ground point if not happy with location
check out www.autosound2000.com (they have done it all before)richard and david are the guru's.
hope this helps

i recall that having 2 grounds is a bad thing, so this might be causing it.

i'd try just the 1 ground and see how it sounds

dont take the engine one off your car need this to start. take it off and it(ur starter) will look for another path to earth usualy through the main wiring harness(could get messy)consult an auto elec before you go any futher

Has nothing to do with RCA and power cables running close to each other.

Ground loops can allow noise into your system. They are caused when your deck and your amplifier have different ground references relative to each other. Jaycar sell an RCA isolation transformer, which will effectivly eliminate the DC component (ie shift in ground reference) from your RCAs and remove the whine.

Try a different ground point for your amps - a good solid point - that might just solve you noise prob.

Actually, some cars will benefit(in terms of performance and electrical flow) from a few more ground points from the battery to the car.

hmmm i was having the same problem, running sub and splits off the one amp, i thoguht it was the RCA for the splits.. it turned out that when i d/c the RCA for the sub the whining/buzzing noise went away, so i got one of those ground loop isolator things, and it all went away...

that was until i unscrewed one of the speakers and put it back in , i'd unscrew it slightly and the noise would go away?? oh well
