I have a 99 Proton Satria XLi, and have the following system:
CDA-7998R MP3/CD
MRV-F340 4 Channel
SPX-177A (replacing with SPX-Z19T)
MRD-M500 MONO AMP
2XSWR-1021D Woofers
4 Gauge power cable
Stinger cabling
Please tell me what you think.

I'd get a cap (I don't think Alpine makes caps - yet) other than that the equipment is good. Get it installed well and you should have a nice sounding system

Oh! yeah, don't forget the sound deadening!

Da'flea.

it's not to my taste,

i'd suggest more power for the subs, at least a 500WRMS per sub.

V12 amps whilst quite nice have always sounded a bit "sterile" to me.

the F1 splits are supposed to be good, but i haven't heard them to comment.

i would have bought a 7998 tho, if it had a removable face

not saying that it wouldn't be an awesome system, installation has alot more to do with the result than the components themselves. not to mention my taste in car audio is probably different to yours.

yeah i got sound deading.
im thinkin of gettin a stinger cap.
in hot4s issue98 there is a comment on 3-way splits, and they have the new spx's in there.
"We could even hear several faults in the recording that we never knew were even there."
with the 7998 u dont need a removable face, due to the design and how it retracts back into itself.
im also thinkin of gettin the MRD-M1000

i'm aware that the 7998 retracts, however if a theif knows what he is looking at, they will know it's usable if stolen,
whereas a normal HU isn't usable without the face.
M1000 would be good
i've heard the F1 splits aren't really worth the extra $$$ over PG Ti Elite 3 ways or Focal 165W3's or Dyn 3 ways.
(and this is from someone who already has F1 gear)
but in the end, it's up to taste, if you prefer them over other 3 ways which are similiarly priced, then go for it,
unfortunately it's near impossible to hear them in a car, and i am yet to see any of these on a demo board, which is relatively useless anyway.
PLEASE don't buy them because they are Alpine! listen to them first and compare them to other 3 way sets in the same price range.
make sure you set aside a grand or 2 to install them too, because it's difficult to get right, and often involves custom door trims or kicks or a pillar trims, maybe electric windows (to give more mounting options) and things add up fast.

to be honest, Hot4's aren't audio genius's even though i mostly agree with their views.
if you compare the Focal's to the Alpine in that review, you'll find that the Focal's really shine through, given that they are less than 1/2 the price, and they didn't really have anything bad to say about them.

when my care is repaired, you're welcome to listen to my 165w3's if you'd like to form your own opinion.

oh, and you might want to look at an amp that will do them justice. any of these splits should be fed over 150WRMS, from a quality amplifier.

the thing is that the guy u talked to cant of heard these speakers due to that they havent been released on sale yet. and the person who is installing them is 1 of 12 ppl in australia to go to a workshop on how to install these speakers correctly. but i also have talked to a person who has F1. and he said the oppisite. then i order the speakers the the alpine rep of this region, who said that these speakers will be the top speakers for around 10 yrs.

Present it with 2Ohms, and watch ur windows get blown out (well, maybe not)

But yeah, set asside a decent ammount to install it, and make sure they doo a good job of it too...

Top Werk.!

I have a feeling that system would sound well balanced and extremely nice if the install is done well. The F#1 splits sound great (at least the old 3-ways do, i'm yet to hear the new ones) and the power running to the type-R's would be just about right to balance with the front stage.

If it were me i might add more power but thats not a necessity.

Question is, how do you like the system?

true, the guy i spoke to probably did hear the older range, and quite frankly he probably has a different taste to me and you in speakers.

the last person you should take advice from is the Alpine rep. why would he say anything bad about his own products?

have you listened to any other splits to compare them to, or are you just buyign them because they are the top of the line Alpine splits?

right.....
i wonder how many of the top SQ competitors dont install thier own speakers.....
kinda pointless in some ways otherwise....cos it's just whoever has the most money...
but anyways....
i believe there has been a price drop in the type x 2 ways down to $699
not 100% sure on that tho.
theres a post around here somewhere....
