The Alpines are not as good the Bostons, hence the $150-200 price difference but if the Alpines are going to be better suited to your application then they would be a better choice, no use in having top quality speakers if you cant get the best out of them.

I have read that the Type Rs are very bassy for a 6" but dont know about efficiency, which it seems what you are after..

what amp are you powering them with specifically?

i found when i had the bostons they went pretty loud. that was with 75rms. i wouldn't think you would really need more.

maybe it's a matter of tunning or SDing. make the most of what you have before spend money on new splits.

i have a alpine v12. something or the other but it puts out 80wrms per channel at 14.4 volts...

does any one know what i should be using ( in regards to all the little jumpers in the boston crossover?) there are a few which i can move around but i dont know what they do. my bostons with 80wrms do not even compeet with nastis response kevelar splits and there 100wrms from his jaycar amp. hence my bad impresson on boston.

if you're sure it puts out 80wrms then i am a bit puzzled. considering that most of the v12s put out quite a bit more than they're rated at.

jumpers... you can grab the boston rc620 manual off their website.

maybe the tweeter is set to -6db or -3db, you can try set it to 0db. that would make a bid difference in loudness.
there is a sq1 and sq2 jumber. i think sq2 is for when the tweeter is separated far away from the woofer. going between sq1 and sq2 i really didn't notice too much difference.

btw what do you mean specifically by do not compete. do you mean they don't sound as loud or do you mean they don't sound as if their sound quality is better?

um. don't know if it makes much difference but make sure the tweeter is wired up to the right slots on the crossovers. there are slots for ambient tweeters, it shouldn't be in there.

um.. the only other thing i can think of is if you are crossing them too low causing them to bottom out. what are your crossover settings at? i think probably 70 or 80hz should be about right.

yer thst sounds right, i have the crossover on 80+ and the tweeter on 0 (i think) as for the sq thing i have no idea i think its on the default one. but the tweeters are far from the sub.
