Gee, my Sony comment has stirred a few people up

So much can be said about what amplifiers do for speakers. For starters I'm gonna say that I don't know everything about car audio, so my views shouldn't really be taken too seriously. However, I do know the basics at least having gone through and researched (when building systems) a bit of car audio over the years.

The reason why I put up the Sony amp is because I can personally say that it has and still is a good amplifier from the experience. Sure Marlin has his great clipping / distorion story, but who's fault is that may I ask?
Her system has proved itself also in competition (while running the Sony hu), up against cars with systems two to four times the value of hers (running Naka, Tubes, Xtant). From here it only gets better with the upgraded hu and possible change of sub soon.

When people say quality, what is the definition of quality? If Tube Driver is quality, then anything below it must be a pos, but not necessarily as seen here with many people running different amps for the Dyns.

I guess alot of the bad mouthing of Sony gear is from people who've had a bad expereince with it, or from people who just want to think it. The ONLY 'bad encounter' (if you want to call it) we had with the Sony amp was the one running the subwoofer. It cut out after 3hours straight at full volume on it's first night on the town (not surprised lol)

the butler should do nicely, but as far as stright solid state goes, audison gets my vote!
Don't you mean even order harmonic distortion? (- 3rd order is caused by straight clipping)

Ps,
#1 Butler tube driver only has a tube preamp.
#2 While I happen to like(love) the sound that overdriven tube amps put out, I wouldn't exactly call it "nice". I think countless hard rock and heavy metal bands have proved this, or perhaps Dillinja and his Valve recordings record label?

[/indent]argh. yeah. even order harmonic distortion. whats wrong with me. but clipping... thought that was jsut passing ur DC rails through your output devices into your speakers...

yeah, the butler has only a tube front end, but thats all you really need to introduce that "tube" musicality into the final sound. for a while i was running an audio innovations tube pre in my home system, and a Musical Fidelity solid state power. sure, not quite as warm as an all valve system, but it introduces valve musicality into the equasion. takes away some of that solid state roughness...

yeah i don't mind overdriven tubes. for the right genre.. wonderful. smashing pumpkins do it well... never been a fan of any electronica on overdriven tubes, however i know a few large groups who use tubes in their gear and it does sound wonderful. can we say Underworld?? mmmmmm....

anyway, a little off topic...
