What are people's thoughts on the Phoenix Gold 9"/5"/Tweeter Combination as a front end running from a PG 500.4 amp. In my new car this is what i am thinking about running, without a sub, and i heard it today, in the same car i am buying, and it sounded AWESOME!

PG are not a brand most ppl think of for anything but subs, amps and cables etc, but I have done several vehicles with their full range speakers and have always been really pleased with the results. I havent heard this combo yet but I am glad you think they sounded awesome as this is what I would expect from PG.

Anyway Ill probably go for these in my next system, but as thats a long way off, they are just on my wish list now

Like, i've always been Blaupunkt, as you can probably tell from my signature. But i'm selling my current car, and the audio in it, and starting fresh. And these sounded unbelievable, so clear and loud, and the bass! And he wasnt running subs either...i think i'm in love

Also, could anyone reccomend a head unit? Nothing really top of the line, around $1000-$1500 mark.

There are plenty of great HUs in that price range. If you like Blaus then Becker might be down your alley, but that budget gives a lot of options

I'm guessing Becker is a brand?
I was thinking of the Eclipse 8061 perhaps?

Off topic: Cyber, you wouldn't happen to have a copy of Freq Nasty's "Boomin' Back atcha" would you? I've looked everywhere for it, nobody seems to have heard of it.

The Eclipse decks are great, only issue is they arent detachable face which for me rules them out.

Of course i'm gonna tell you to look at the Alpine range, they have some sweet HU's

As far as the PG's go, you like em so get them! PG make great gear.

Now just tell us what car you're getting next

Well, Poid, i am looking at a few cars at the moment.
R33 GTS25T Spec 2, 2 Door & 4 Door
R34 GT-T, 2 Dooor
Chaser Tourer V Sedan (Twin Turbo)

Something with a bit of poke

The only issue with the PG stuff, it's awesome, but i'd be up for $4500, and thats just a front stage and amplifier. Pricey, but quality costs.

Yeh thats fair enough...well if you are going to go cheaper its better to do it on the amplifier as you should not really notice a difference.

Otherwise there are many alternatives in regards to splits. Dynaudio, Focal and the Alpine F#1 splits all come to mind (and pretty sure all of them are on the BDL demo board, and a few cars around).

Well i've got another one of mt 3/4 Channel Blaupunkt's under my bed not being used, in fact, never been used. I guess i could use that, and i've got my old Miami Beach head unit in my cupboard...so really, all i'd need to get is the Three ways

Go down to AudioTech in Tuggeranong, and see my mate John. The PG's are in his Skyline.
