Phoenix gold Octane R's for $200 on wad.

Also consider the Hertz HSK 165. I've just bought a pair but have not installed them yet. got mine for $199

boston FS60's or even Alpine Reference Splits.

I have the Fusion FPC-65's 6.5" splits, probably these ones you saw for $250 marked down. Yhey are pretty good, I was impressed by them so I got them at the nats.

Another set to look at are the PG tantrums, they got a pretty strong following around here, might look at a set for myself yet

I had a set of the Hetrz HSK165's. These things take a fair amount of power and do go really loud. Only down side I could find to them was i didnt like the sound of the tweeters. May be worth considering and having a listen to though and see what you think.

For $250 you could get some nice 2nd hand splits. Im sure focal polykevlars, MBQuart Discus(mabey refrence) and others would fall into this price range and would offer great sound.

I like PG splits, the Octane-R's can be had for $200 from WAD, but im very happy with my Alpine SPR-175A splits (the old type-r splits afaik) They are great sounding, lots of midbass, go loud when getting enough power, only problem is they are only rated at 50wrms (same as just about all alpine splits) which is kinda annoying, so like im sure you would get louder sound from higher powered splits but these sound nice and go as loud as i need them. ok /stops rambling

bullets huh? well its your money

nah i like the hertz. for the money you won't do better IMO. sure, if you spend more, you'll wind-out with a better speaker, but yeah.

contact phil k from rm audio. see if he knows someone with the hertz splits in or close to your area.
