pro logic II isnt fidelity.
i'm sure your system sounds lush! and i'm not saying what you have is crap!!! (basically its not a diss) but i say, confidently, that i dont like it, without listening to it.
its a wonderful technology, using complex algorhythms and processing to pull "extra" sound out of a 2-channel stereo source and give it to you in 3.. or 5.1 channels etc.
i believe - there's a recording and mastering studio where your CD's are mixed, mastered and created. a lot of professional studios are rigged-up using pretty damn good gear. these studios cost lots of dollars (not even in the same ballpark than ANY pro-logic II decoding unit) and the people behind them are professional sound engineers with, frankly, better ears than ours. not only that, but the artist(s) will be there to listen to it and give it the final "tick".
to then go and apply post-processing to the signal - is almost sacriledge! its the same as playing with DSP's like "stadium" and "theatre" etc...
just expressing my views. i'm not much a fan of anything music played as surround.

I have to agree with the list of HUs already mentioned, cant go wrong with the Nak or Clarion. Forget about the flashy dolphins jumping around the display, I'm talking from an SQ point of view. Personally I'm a fan of Alpine's external processors and the DACs in them so I'd probably stick with one of their HUs with fiber out to a processor.

i agree DL2 isn't 'hi fidelity' - but then again, neither is a car interior that is the only reason i use it, it allows me to get incredible imaging accuracy and sound stage space, that is very hard to achieve otherwise. i scored 5/5 for imaging at autoexpo, which the judge, with many more years experience than most, said he has never awarded before. for what i give up in transparency, i gain in soundstage detail and accuracy - a tradeoff that i personally find to be good one.
in the end though, you gotta do what floats your boat thankfully time alignment is now making accurate stereo imaging affordable for alot of people.
