IMO unless you are running 10s upfront, then you would be better off with smaller sub. SQ is all about a smooth blend of spkrs and a 15 wont blend with 6s, even 8s, so Id look at smaller if SQ is goal. Its your money so if you must have a 15 you could do a lot worse than this sub, but 2 10s or 12s may be better for SQ IMO

I would agree with that but im looking to tune really really low. Around 15hz Most 10s and 12s wont like going that low.

The tempests are very very hard to beat for the price

I plan on upgrading my response 15's to Tempests when i have more cash. The Tempests even ported will be very very tight, they are a great SOudn quality sub.

Even with 6.5inch splits upfront as long as they are amped the bass should still be nice and tight. Sound deadening your doors will help get some more bass out of the current fronts. Should mix quite nicely.

Dont forget your fronts will still put out as much midbass regardless of what size sub you have, and all the experts know that tightbass is pretty much all front stage.

Tempests also have a heap of linear displacement, more than tripple that of a Single 12inch Alpine Type R in comparison.

Ok, but you have to ask yourself, do you really need to tune that low - once you put the box in your car, you will get a HUGE amount of gain at 20hz.. That said, with a good box design, there is no reason why a 15" sub can't give you good SQ.

Anyway, I'd have to disagree with Cyberpunky - a larger sub won't neccesarily have a different response curve (depends on design of the sub as well as the enclosure) and certainly won't put out less midbass.. I personally think that strong midbass drivers up front are important regardless of what size subs you have - I don't care if you have 5" subs, strong midbass drivers mounted at the front of your car are important if you want "tight" punchy kick drums and that "bass up front" effect...

I agree with Bassaholic, a 15 can sound as good as, or better than a 10.

There's not a lot of good 15s in this price range however, you may want to spend a couple of hundred more to get something sensational.

There's not a lot of program material (ie, songs) with bass that goes below 20Hz

I had a 15" Infinity Beta before somebody stole it

It was definitely a very nice SQ sub and sounded better IMO than some 12s I've heard. A lot better than the old 15" Pioneer I had previously. Too bad they dont make it anymore, it was retailing at $900 and not a lot of shops got them. So if you get one second hand from WA ... its probably mine

For a few more bucks:
Beyond Audio X-One
Kicker L7
DD something (ask phil )

There is a black cone L7 in the for sale forum for your budget The old model really suits a low tuned box, or a largish sealed box for something quieter, but slightly cleaner.
