Guys and Gals,

I have an Audison Vrx 2.250 to run a front stage in my car. I want something that will be loud, clean, but not like Dyns, where you can not work them hard on all music, for long periods. Not knocking Dyns, but just not the speaker I am after.

Some of my thoughts so far have been
ID Sompression Horn Splits
Focal Poly Kevlar 2 way splits
Hertz Space 6 Splits
Eclipse SC8362 (not the greatest for their price)
Dyn Audio (depending on how they will cope)

Have you got any further suggestions, or any experience with any of the above, please let me know.

Thanks

other good options:

which dyns were you refering to?

i'm surprised you think that way. cos i thought the complete opposite of my system 340s. i could blast away with them at crazy levels while they still kept true to almost anything i threw at them. the tweeter wasn't as composed at extreme listening levels but still remained very listenable and enjoyable.

i got mine for spot on your budget. but installing 3 ways will cost more obviously.

anyway that was just my opinion. maybe our preferences are different

good luck

If your looking at the image dynamics horns may I suggest you look at the cd-2mh minihorns and maybe a set of dynaudio midbass...I put a set of these into Kittans rav 4 about a month ago and they sound fantastic...I used to have the compression horn kit about 5 years ago and the SQ was not a patch on the CD-2 but then neither was the price...if you have about $1000 to spend I don't think you can go wrong with Boston Pro's or the Dynaudios, the dyns will take loads of power...I used to run my system 220's off of 480 watts rms...

QWhichever way you go you can sleep easy knowing you own some of the best speakers on the market...

silviawa:
i have to disagree with you about dyn as I have a pair of dynaudio system 240GT... it's not bad for sq, but pretty good for SQL i reckon... however if you are willing to spend $1000 for split try the FOCAL K2 Power... it has a pretty good rating... a lot better than the previous focal kevlar and alot better than 2 ways focal utopia... or maybe the other option is ALPINE DDDrive... i heard they are quite impressive...

Sounds like Bostons are your speaker. Dyns do go fairly hard, gotta keep the power up to them

The polyglass line is pretty low, so it wouldnt be too hard to get better sounding speakers...

My recommendations would be:
Focal Utopia
DLS Reference Series
Alpine DDLinear or X Series

But of course, I'd take Dyn's over these anyday...

For a general performer (as opposed to a specific application) I'd suggest the Boston Pro's as well.

Have a peak at the Diamond drivers as well.

DLS Ultimate Reference, PG Titanium (maybe out of your $ range?), Dyns or some Oz Audio Matrix (if you can get them) would be top of my list.

I love the sound of the focal Utpoia's. The MB quart are also good but they become too harsh at higher volunmes. I have found the utopia's to be very smooth. Also take quite a lot of power.
