This is just something that i had a thought on. Due too space i might scrap my idea of the 10's i was after but not sure yet. Just wondering what you guys think would be better.

2x SWS-1041 or 1x SWR-1241D

Amp is a Cadence z1000.

Which will hit harder and cleaner. Not too sure yet because i haven't heard either of these subs. At the top of my list is still the Eclipse SW6102.4, but i'm having second thoughts of those size of enclosure i need to build for them.

imo, i'd go the 2 10s.

10's, with less mass to move, can move quicker (thus sounding better - tighter and more accurate). 2x 10s will sweet more air than a single 12, and as such you're kinda killing 2 birds...

having said that, there are many 12's out there that have a great sound, and i think you're more likely to get a better sound from 1x $600 12" than 2x $300 10"s.

up the other end of the market, however (big dollar subs) i'd take 2x 10s over a 12....

just my 2c

A $500 12inch we have much be sound quality than two $250 10inch subs.

As your in the Audiphile's corner definitely go with the one much better 12inch

Damn, boy - that's hedging your bets!!

I was about to jump all over you at the start of that post, but you qualified it well. I agree totally - 2 x quality 10's is a fantastic setup if you're not after a bass heavy sound: 2 x 10's can do the deep, loud and low in an extremely engaging fashion - I know, I've got 2 $500-odd 10's run by a mere 500wrms and it's superb.

At the lower end?? I'd probably push a single mid-premium 12 than 2 budget 10's.

Actually, the amount of moving mass doesn't have a direct impact on how quickly the speaker can respond to the signal - it does however have an impact on the EBP - ie less mass will tend to be more efficient and the speaker will tend to not play as quite as low (less low bass = tighter).

In case you are interested, Adire Audio have a nice tech article -

Anyway, it depends - two 10s will be louder (assuming same subwoofer brand/model), but also require more box volume. Then there is cosmetics etc. Also, one more expensive 12" sub may be better than two cheaper 10"s

bassaholic. i stand corrected. you are in fact right that larger subs dont necessarily move slower than their smaller counterparts.

i spose the point i was getting at was that 'most' 10" subs on the market will be faster than their 12" equivalent.... that is my experience.

Went and had a compare down at my local northfield and i must say i'm too too impressed with the alpine's. The eclipse easily out did them. I'm really looking at those 10's as much budget won't stretch me far enough to the Eclipse Aluminmum 12".... so if you guys are willing to put some cash my way!!! I'll be very happy! Thanks for the quick reply's.
