Just wondering if you guys can give me some input about the above topic.

I was thinking of getting 3 ways Focal Utopia Audiom which consist of TLR Tweeter, 6w and 5ws. However I have an argument with someone that he reckon the 3 ways Boston Pro is the best speaker ever for SQ or SQL and he believed that he can win any competitions with the 3 ways Boston Pro.

What do you think guys???

SQ is subjective.
If he thinks that Pros can win any comp, tell him to buy a set and compete, by this statement alone he should win the entire circuit.

Focal!!!!
I've heard the 165W3's and they are brilliant!!! The next version up (i think thats the one you want, yeah?) Would kick the boston's ****
That said, if it isn't installed and setup right, then it won't do anything!

Boston's are the best speakers I've heard, hands down (and that was only the two way set!)

...but you wouldn't catch me saying they're the only speakers in the world worth getting!!

One day I'll listen to these damn Focals everyone raves about.

Anyone considering purchasing speakers in that price bracket would do well to listen to the Dynaudio Esotar systems, both the 2-way and 3-way. I have yet to hear a more natural, detailed sound from a speaker set, and I've heard em all! Of course, I could be a tad biased!

If your in no rush wait a little while for the new Morel systems that will be released very soon, they will be worth having a look at.

With regards to the systems you have spoken of I have one thing to say, "Sound is a subjective thing, buy what you like and not what the so called experts tell you you need. After all you will be listening to them not them!"

listen to them!!

i personly did not like the focals, thought they sounded like a $50 speaker
the bostons i love, look at the pro 3 ways or even the z6 2 ways.

the dyns are a damn nice speakers too

and while u are at it, have a listen to the PG ti splits, there one of the best speakers i have ever heared!

It comes down to personal opinion.

I'm a boston fan, so i would recommend them (I've currently got some 6.5 Pro's, but soon to get some Z6's as well)

(Also keep in mind that i havent heard any of the competing brands...aka focal, so my opinion prob isnt the best )

Just go and listen to some of them and work out the ones that YOU prefer

bah! gimme an esotar system over all other comers!

i like morels too from what i've heard of them.
bostons are quite nice. they're clean, but not my cup of tea.
same with alpine's upper offerings.
same with any DIY-homebrew (seas, vifa, scanspeak etcc...).
focals.... just like jm lab. bright as. great if you've got no top-end hearing, but they make me wince on some material. having said that, they aren't nearly as bright as others, and they do the rest of the audio spectrum decently.
DLS... nice.
think thats the main ones!
yet to hear PG's splits.

always be a dyn man tho! hehe

like dragon said it comes down to personal opinion and your opinion is the most important. When I first joined CAA all I heard was focal focal focal so I thought the utopia's were the be all and end all. I was looking at creating the exact same setup u r talking about. It was not until after I actually listened to it extensively that I realised focal speakers weren't for me. That is not to say they are crap or can't compare with the likes of bostons, a/d/s or dyns. But at the end of the day there were only a few sets of splits of the what I have auditioned so far that cut the cheese for me - a/d/s 641is (or 346is currently own), dynaudio sys340 and boston of course. That said the 5ws had excellent midbass/bass reference, the TLR was very bright as was the a6w but that is how it was setup.

Boston Pros are ****ing awesome but I would buy the a/d/s 3-ways because they played the type of music I like the most accurately and the best for me. Don't let someone else tell you crap like that. There are so many other factors that go into making a SQ system not just getting awesome bostons.

If you like the sound of the focals over the bostons then you know your answer. Focal are a bloody awesome company and they have one of the best home speakers in the world (Grande Utopia). How's that for wank factor

Also wait for the Utopia version 2's. Your money will be better spent on the new range IMO

just my 2cents

I have the 165W3 3 way focal utopia front stage. I am very happy with the natural sound they produce in my vehicle. I am running an active front stage all with time allignment and they are the best sounding speaker i have heard however to be fair i have not heard a really good boston 3 way set-up.

At the end of the day i have found brand influences al lot of people. When all of the screaming and shouting is over it will be you driving your car to work at 7am in the morning that needs to be happy with the sound of whatever you choose. I found the focals to be very natural and smooth and therfore if you like a bit more top or bottom end you have a nice flat point to start with.

Just something to think about.

Thanks guys for your opinion. I have made up my mind to go for 3 ways Focal Utopia Audiom. But I have another problem in buying the right amp for the Audiom. I have to choose either Audison Vrx 6.420 or Soundstream Davinci. Which one do you reckon? Do you have a better recommendation? I need a six channel amp to run full active.

Guys, I went to see my installer today and he told me that it is hard to do 3 ways in my car as there is no space to put the kick pannel in.

This afternoon i went to Lygon Audio Visual and have a listen on Dynaudio speakers and tweeters. They are incredible. I love it so I reckon I should stick with the 240GT and upgrade the tweeter to Esotar tweeter.

It seems that I need to follow your advices as not many people recommend me FOCAL. I've talked to my sis boyfriend and he also told me to keep the 240GT and upgrade the tweeter to Esotar. Probably that's the option I'll go.

Yesterday I went to ERUPT concept and their show car is an RX3. The front split is Boston Pro. I sat there for a while but I prefer my 240GT over Boston Pro. Maybe something wrong with my ear but it doesn't sound right.
