Say I have a rectangular box with all three sides a different length. Assuming the box is the right volume for the sub (sealed in this case) does it matter SQ wise on what face of the box the sub is positioned? Will it matter if the sub is not centred on that face of the box?
Similarly if I have a box of the same volume but with an odd shaped rear wall and sides (so it fits my boot snuggly) will this make the sub sound any different assuming that all other things are the same (volume, amp etc).
Basically I am asking is the SQ of a sub greatly affected by the shape of the box (within in reason of course) or is it mostly dependant on volume?

Sub position relative to box?

Ok, since this is the SQ forum, I will say that the box shape will not make an audible difference. The wavelengths of sub bass are very long and subwoofer boxes are usually far too small for shape to matter - the importance of box shape is down to the design of midrange enclosures, where the wavelengths are much shorter.
(in an SPL comp, every tenth counts and the boxes can often be very large in the case of walled cars - so in SPL comps, the shape may be more critical)
The position in the box (ie centred, or to the left or whatever) most likely won't matter either (within reason). But the position of the sub inside the car may have an audible effect - ie facing forward, or facing up mounted inside the tyre well, or mounted right in the rear left corner facing the corner etc, may make an audible difference...
Also, If the box is extremely large and the box is practically walling off the rear of the car from the front and you are rear loading the sub, then that may audibly effect the sound as well.. (particularly with sedans...)
