Speak with MR Lownphat
Matty is a proud owner of 8" TR splits, his words: "i will never sell them they're so amazing".
Matty lives in Geelong however im sure u can arranage an audition with him
I have heard one pair in a car (8"s also) and i was very impressed, mid bass is aawesome and they go blisteringly loud.
also check out Dynaudio 240GTs, Boston Pros and Morel (not sure model) is all in similar price bracket and will perform very well also
Audition, Audition, Audition!!

Ive got TR 6x9 components in the front of my car. They're okay, but I don't think they're anything like mr lowNphats. He has a lot more midbass than I do, but I think that has something to dow ith the xover in my amp.
The tweeters I found a bit harsh, and have replaced them with Rockford FNQ's. Also I replaced the Xovers(FNQ's also), as all it did was let the woofer run full range, and just hp the tweeters.
They do sound good, once you get everything set up, but I guess thats the same as any other speaker.

If your going to the meet on Friday, come up to the white VS [CRUZN.5] and have a listen to my Dyn 240GT's..
as for the TR's, they are loud.. i remember hearing Adam's (nemesis) in his VN and they were nice.. Best bet, as NUMB said is to audition and find out what you like..
i was at one stage, considering TR's as well.. but that never eventuated..

ive got 2 sets of TR splits. a set of 6" , and then i was so impressed i got the 3way 8" splits.
Im still yet to get the 8s in the car so i cant comment on them. but the 6" splits are very clear and capable of getting really loud. I actually wasnt as impressed with the midbass of the 6" tho. maybe the 8s will help.
awesome tweeters too.
one thing to look out for is that the magnet is so big it can be hard to mount in a door if you're putting it against the inner panel. i had to use baffles to push the speaker out a bit. just so the window could go down !
