Just in the process of cobbling together some 3ways based on the ht20 tweeter, the hv130 5.25" midrange, the HV 200 8" midbass and the 3w.10 crossovers.

I've been reccomended the LRx2.500 amp (200wrmsx2), and it looking at the specs for the hertz, it seems that 200 wrms would murder them over the long run.

Has any one got a more educated opinion on that? Should I be looking at a different amp? If so, What?

if you can afford the more powerful amp then go for it. it'll leave you with more headroom for better peak power output during demanding passages of music.

in the long run, there should be no problems if the system is tuned properly to begin with. that is, the gains should not be set too high so as to cause them to distort/overpower at full volume on your HU.

and of course, for normal listening, you won't be having the system turned up full. low volume listening means low power output. and for normal listening, the power will be well within the speakers' handling ability all day long. no probs.

thats what i was thinking along the lines of, but i just wanted to make sure. My only concern was that the gains would have to be stupidly low (or even below what they could be) to avoid distortion at any volume.

Thanks for the help!

the only time the gain wouldn't go low enough is if the HU preouts are only miniscule max voltage, say under 0.5V (as would be the case in really, really old HUs). but any HU these days with at least 1V preouts will be fine. plus you have the volume control to use; just don't turn it up too far if it distorts.

it'll be fine.

As mentioned if you set your gains right youll be fine with that amount of power. I had my HSK165's running of 225W RMS and they loved it. Just gotta make sure the gains are set right.

Nice. Now are there any other suggestions for amps other than the LRx2.500 for ~200wrms a channel?

The 8inch woofers would be happy with 200wrms on tap. The HV200's are rated at 200wrms remember.

I would seriously look into getting the HV200L's they are much better at playing in the door of the car, where the HV200's require a small box. I would know cause i have the HV200's in 8litre sealed enclosures in my doors.

The HV200L's will put out a lot more bass when running in the door so i'd definitely go with these.

the budget would be the same as the lrx, so about 700.

As for going the 200v's, i've already got the 200s, and they will end up in a box anyway as there isnt anywhere for an IB enclosure.

the LRx is probably the best VFM amp around for that kinda money. excellent SQ and so much power. i don't think there's any other similar 2-channel around is there? :?
