Choosing speakers are hard, because its not always what you hear is what you get. Something may sound good on the board, but sound **** your doors. I think youll be happy with any reasonble speakers (hertz, bostons, pg ect) as long as the installation is sound

i aint gunna change my mind cuz i really do like Pioneer.
"you can get a pair of Alpine splits for around $300 and they are the best splits ive heard!" Now help me out here ppl! Which splits should i go for?
yeah, go with your ears! listen for quality of treble and its clarity and hopefully lack of any sibilence/harshness. assess the midrange and listen for vocals with a natural sound and smoothness. then consider the midbass and how much punch is in them.
don't necessarily choose by brand or even cost. and not by power handling or fancy specs.
good luck

You don't want to "hear" that Pioneer are cr@p, but you've "heard" that Alpine are better?
Forget brand shopping. Go listen to as many speakers in your budget as possible. If they're in a sound board, close your eyes and ask the saleman to switch between a few different pairs: you might be shocked that the more popular speakers aren't necessarily the better sounding option.
Cheers
I think I'm a little over supreme setups :(
6 months with a new car, and I've got an amp and a set of front speakers.
Or I could just be lazy.

Like dasherhalo said, listen to the speakers with disregard for the brands or what you've heard about them. When shopping for my splits I was surprised to see a pair of VDO splits (sorry don't know model, but he said $300) outperform both the blue and slivercone Alpine splits, and on par with the Hertz HSK165's  Mind you this was my impression, yours may be different.
In the end I chose some JL VR splits for under you budget, and as very happy with them.

If u are interested in them, a store called Macnevins in rockhampton is doing some pretty good deals on them, for example perfect 6.1 splits for $515 and r.r.p is $900!!! i'm spewing cause they cost me $800.......
But as others have said, listen to lots with your favourite discs and forget about what brand u like, it will open your eyes.
Regardless of what u buy, the install is the most crucial part, so be prepared to spend the money on getting it done right. If u don't u might as well go for the supercheap special.

They are moving to a new location on harvest road (not sure on the suburb). I tried visiting them about 6 weeks ago and couldn't get in but they stock DD boston PG and a couple others. Might be worth a look.
Happy hunting
