G'day all... i have been wondering for a while now about Ai-net's output voltage...
i have a alpine h/u (model No escapes me atm) with a 3 sets of 4 volt preouts and Ai-net.
i also have a PXA-H600 processor running off Ai-net..
even tho the pxa is running nicely i want to know should i feed it an rca input if the Ai-net voltage is lower???
thanks for your help..

If you use digital input then you will get 4 V out. You need to use RCA or dig with any Ai-net processor (I think) and so will get 4V with either. If you used just Ai-net, if thats possible, then you should get 4 V too.
Anyway its been a while since I worked at an Alpine d4ealer but give one a call or Alpine direct to be sure, unless others know ?

The ainet cable is simply a way for the HU to talk to the processor, the processor then gives you 4V via the RCA outputs to the amplifiers

corect me if i am wrong but using the ai net system the head unit becomes a digital decoder and the processor becomes the pre amp???

that is correct, the HU will only act as a cd transpot unit and all the DAC's and preamp function will be from the processor

Well i asked this same question in my therd in there forum. As i dont have an Alpine HU im using RCA inputs. As far as i know the PXA does diplay a warning icon when the input signal clips. But i would like to know what type of digital interface it uses. Its own codec or some sort or just your basic 1's and 0's on a CD

the PXA may convert back to digital, then back to analogue again, but it would hardly be worthwhile, as if "colouration" from the first DAC would still be present, and it would only make matters worse.
using the DAC in the PXA would only be useful if you had a digital link between the HU and the PXA, bypassing your HU's internal DAC. (it will send only 1's and 0's to the PXA)
