I'm looking for oppinions on the Soundstream Rubicon II amps...

I'm thinking of using a Rubicon II 600.4 4 channel (4x80wrms) to run my new system. It would run splits and a single sub.

The splits are likely to be Dyns (150wrms - with 8" woofer), and the sub is probably gonna be the Xtant Hex 12" (500wrms).

I've been told that the Soundstream amps are very gutsy and underrated, is this true? Would 80wrms be enough for the dyns?

I have run my system240GT's from 75wrms before (Cadence A4), and they still played very loud, but the new system will use 8" woofers, so will I really need more power??

This is purely an SQ system, so it doesn't need to go overly loud, but like all of us, I like to crank it sometimes :)

The alternative is to use two Audison Lrx2.500's, but that poses some installation difficulties for me. Would there likely be any SQ difference between the audisons and the sounstream (apart from power outputs)?

Any comments appreciated, thanks!

soundstream certainly have a great reputation. i'm not familiar with the latest rubicon amps though. no doubt they perform to expectation, which means they will produce plenty of nice quality power that belies their specs.

similar to yourself, i run the system240 from 'not much power' at the moment: 2x75WRMS off my audison VRx6.420. they go plenty loud enough for daily listening.

i suspect running the 8" splits from the rubicon will be more than adequate for a quality SQ setup.

:)

The Rubicon series is the update to the old Reference series (Blue ones). They seem to be pretty well identical.

The bridged channel is rated to supply 300wrms to a sub, do you think this would be enough to run a sub like the Xtant Hex (Rated at 500wrms)? Sub would be in a ported enclosure.

Has anyone had experience with the old Reference Line??

:D

I think I'm a little over supreme setups :(

6 months with a new car, and I've got an amp and a set of front speakers.

Or I could just be lazy.

yeah, plenty of people have used the reference line in the past, and they were excellent. it's had to see SS stuff being anything but great. same sorta deal as PG: reliably, solid performance, and some nifty features.

Cool, it's looking really promising then. I can get a reasonable price on it too :)

Now I just have to sell off the rest of my old system...
