Hey all, i'm in the market now for a single 10" sub. It is for pure sound quality only, i really detest bass, however you can't beat a nice filling low frequency not for some tracks, so i've decided a single 10" will do. I am currently running an:

Alpine 9805
Alpine spx-177a's
Audison lrx 4.300

I am going to run the sub off the rear channels of the audison which will only give 220rms however as you've probably figured now that is more than enough for what i am desiring, so guys, please send me your opinions on what will work, you've got $500 to work with, thanks a lot, lewis.

$500 will get you a very good 10" sub.

the xtant should be under that, no probs. i believe you're considering the boston pro, which is also an excellent sub.

the others mentioned above are a little more exotic, and as such may be difficult to source. i know little about them except for their good reputation.

the latest hertz hi-energy subs are pretty good from the limited demo i've had in a shop. their 'mille' range are definitely excellent; the series II retail for a little over $400 (ML2500).

you could also consider the diamond audio M6 series, image dynamics IDQ10v2/3, etc.

the trick will be finding a retailer local to you for an audition.

good luck :)

I have heard good things about the boston pro, was going to get one but settled on a IDMAX. They don't require big enclosures either. 12" was around $650, and can only imagine that a 10 would be cheaper.

thanks guys, i'm currently sourcing a pair of 8" phase linear aliante woofers. i am not about winning competitions, i am simply about listening to the music i listen to reproduced as best as it can be in the car environment according to my ears, and going with my hatrid of obvious bass this combination will do the job superbly i would imagine, however the new dilemma now arises of finding something to run them, cos the lrx 4.300 would surely be sick at the thought of powering the whole system. suggestions? LOL, Thanks guys, lewis.

JL Audio W7, Focal, Soundstream Exact, Eclipse Titanium, MB Quart Premium, Boston Acoustics Pro, Image Dynamics IDMax all offer fantastic SQ subs ranging from $400 - $1000. Try listening to as much as you can, this will be difficult as you wont find many single 10's of this nature in demo cars. Also try internet reviews.
