can anyone comment on the three different types of sound deadening that jaycar offer? and what pros and cons have been encountered, need 2 deaden the front doors and floor in my 40serise landcruiser as the rattle is bad, real bad...

if not the j car stuff then what else is everyone else using? have budget of round 200clams. and am wanting 2 do both inner and outer skins in the doors, with a flat metal dash should i do that as well?

am running 8 12" hertz subs in a wall total4000rms 40-50cu/ft box, 4sets of herts splits and 900rms per door... if that helps the ideas.....

cheers nathan

Yeah Flashtac will be good for keeping the water out :) Do yourself a favour and use a sound deadener, not a weather proofing tape.

Dynamat, Stinger, Rockford, G-Spot, there's heaps out there.

i've used flashtac tape before. it works fine, but compared with other 'dedicated' sound deadeners, it's not as dense. sticks fine, but what i would consider a 'light weight' SDer that is good vlue.

for flat areas that are somewhat viertical (eg: doors, trims, dashes, etc) you will want self-adhesive stuff. and in the crevices and around bars, etc, use paint-on stuff. the more the better, but there comes a point when more and more adds less and less benefit.

under carpets and behind confined areas, you can use non-adhesive dense foam-rubber type SDer. this will reduce roadnoise and can help brace trims that rattle (presuming it's packed in relatively tightly).

$200 isn't going to buy heaps and heaps. i personally recommend G-spot serenity max and paint, having used that, brownbread, flashtac and dynamat xtreme in my car. the dynamat stuff is the best, but at a premium and not as good value as serenity max.

you should have enough to help both doors, inside and out, with some left over to tackle rattling trim panels.

but given the extent of your setup, you will probably need double that to achieve a solid car with minimal rattles/resonances. ideally, do the back area, the roof, all doors, and dense foam-rubber under all carpets. likely to cost closer to $1K than $200.

see how you go with the first lot. you can then target other areas out of necessity.

How much difference is there between G-Spot serenity and serenity max? And how does Brownbread compare to either? I'm looking at deadening my doors without spending a fortune as I'm only trying to built up a decent budget to mid-spec system and my budget's tight.

i've used serenity max and brown bread before. IMO, i consider serenity max to be superior for SDing purposes to bb; but only cos it's heavier so i figure it is more effective. bit thicker and not as maleable, so not as easy to apply (but easy regardless).

i've not used 'serenity', so can't comment.

i'd suggest going with serenity max. but no need to start off comprehensively covering the doors in their entirity, nor the boot. concentrate in important areas:
*immediately surrounding the woofer and inside the door cavity directly behind the woofer
*panels that rattle in the boot

from there you can always add more later as required, especially when you can afford it.
