ok.. i'm looking for non-alpine and non-pioneer head unit recommendations for SQ, for $800 or less...

must have 3 pairs of preouts, must have some kind of eq, 4V preouts preferably, and AUX input is VERY preferable.. ideally also time alignment and cost less than $800... between $600 and $800 i guess...

any help appreciated...

but DEFINATLEY not alpine or pioneer... alpine is too common, and pioneer is too.. umm... well... it seems that pioneer is gonan be the next sony imo... but that might just be me..

cheers

nick

hmm, what springs to mind is a clarion. you can probably snare a cheap discontinued DXZ925. i believe it's exactly the same as the current model 935 except silver instead of black. excellent HU on all accounts.

'JohnA' told me he snared a 925 here in melb at a ridiculous clearance price of under $600! wtf?! RRP on the 935 is $1189.

alternatively the clarion DXZ835 retails for $899, has 3-band parametric EQ but no TA.

:)

Look into the Eclipse range,
CD5441 - 5v x 3 preouts + 1 x AUX input, 3 year warranty

I have the CD3421 in my jeep, very basic features but very clean sound.

One of the few brands still building to a standard not to a price. Sure makes sony, jvc, pioneer look overpriced.

like Alpine, Eclipse is only sold through specialist stores so not the easist brand to find.

Wow, that Eclipse is a great unit but it is also a 2001 model, it should be way cheaper than is listed, hit him up for a better deal, it is an incedible cd player. Maccab36, send the person who posted this in to see this guy or get a better deal for him, it is worth about $300 Canadian now. A current model Eclipse with the features you have listed in the CD8443, it retails for $799 Canadian right now. It is just about to become last years model (as of March 8/2004) and is on clearout from Canadian dealers. I've seen some posts from the guys on the site who think it is not brought into Australia, this does not seem correct (I may be wrong though). Nedgeworth here on this site may also be able to source it out for you, send him a PM to see what he can dig up.

just be weary that all headunits when set on flat/tone defeat do not sound the same.

what was sounding fine before you replace the unit, will sound fairly different when you change the headunit.

There is a Eclipse sale on at the moment, all old models are being cleared to make room for the 2004 range, so we will have available to us the same models as the USA.
Finally a reason to upgrade.
