I am looking at installing a centre channel in my Commodore. I am just wondering which companies make a dedicated centre channel speakers? I think Clarion and Alpine do, but what about Dyn, Boston, Focal etc.??

Ideally what size should the speaker be and if I install a tweeter around the same location where should it be pointed, centre of roof or driver??

the speaker dosent have to be a dedicated speaker as such, if you can buy indervidual speakers then u can make one
Boston sell the Pro series splits seperate, so do dyn not sure about focal but i assume you could.

Mr Shiney car has used a 3-4in (he will correct me) dyn midrange for his.

T-bro i belive has used a 6.5in boston? (and again i will be corrected :D )

Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

my suggestion would be to keep the centre speaker driver the same as your left and right front stage drivers.
You wouldn't want different tonal characteristics

contrary to what fudd can remember! :D ...i run a morel hybrid4 2-way split and T-bro runs a boston pro 5.25" single driver.

fit the best quality speaker setup you can afford and fit. as suggested, consider using the same as your L/R splits. the more of the frequency range you can cover, the better.

not sure if you could fit a 6" 2-way setup in there. i find with my 4", it lacks good midbass despite the hybrid setup being top quality. if i could fit a 5.25" i would have. :(

same principles as L/R splits applies:
*quality installation: solid mounting
*quality amplification
*quality speakers

do the best you can. :)

its not the top SQ name, but Kenwood make a centre channel which fits in a standard DIN opening. makes installation very neat.

do a search for 'centre channel' on this forum, ive posted a fair bit about it. and no, the pre-packaged centre speakers from Clarion, Kenwood etc will not cut the mustard for serious sound quality, they all sound like laptop speakers - install them at your peril :(

Thanks T-Bro, It did answer some questions, but The only thing I couldn't find was where to aim the tweeter??
I suspect it should be aimed fairly straight down the middle, but just wanted to see what others are doing?

also try aiming the centre tweeters at the windshield glass, this makes them less obvious and creates a nice 'phantom' blend between the tweeters and centre mid.
