Im looking for a new pair of 2 way 6" splits. Im not exactly sure what brands to be looking at. Im look at spending about $600 on the front stage. I will probally then buy a smaller 2 chan alpine amp to go along with the front stage once i purchase my splits.

I was thinking something along the lines of some RC Bostons or something similar. Could anyone recommend some other brands and places in brisbane where I can listen to them (which would more than likely be GCCS or Northfield)

Any help would be great.

I know its well above your budget, but they are definately worth it- Phoenix Gold Elite 6's..

RRP $1350'ish, but they really are a fantastic sounding set of speakers.

Have a listen to the Diamond Audio M6 splits.
They retail for under $600.
Northfield should have these available to audition.

while we are on the topic of diamond audio hex splits, can some confirm with me as to where they are made? I know the country of origin does not influence the quality of the speaker, but you would expect a speaker retailing for close to a grand wouldnt be made in china.

quite a few nice splits around that price range, many of which sound different to each other, so worth auditioning for what suits your tastes:

*alpine SPX-177A RRP$699
*focal K-power 165KP RRP$730
*diamond audio M6 series
*boston rally RC620
*pioneer aramid fibre cone TS-C160R RRP$599

i'm sure there's plenty more too. :)

Thanks for the replies, your suggestions should help me while making my choice.

Does anyone know of anywhere else I could possibly try to audition some speakers? I know GCCS and Northfield are probally the best around brisbane but any other place would probally help too.

I went down to GCCS yesterday and had a lengthy comparison with the Alpine SPX's and the Dyn 240s...

I was quite surprised with what I heard, for a first time, I actually thought the Alpines sounded good! Had more midbass than the Dyns, but I prefered the tweeters of the dyns a bit more. overall, for a speaker with a RRP of $699 they were very impressive!
