I am running a 3 way focal utpoia front stage in my falcon with the 4" Mid's in the doors. I have sound deadened the doors throughly but my question is....

The 4" mid is not a sealed speaker so would it be better to leave as it currently is or enclose the back of the speaker so it is sealed from the rest of the door?

Will this create unnecesary reflections?

decent sized 'enclosures' are required for low-end response. as such, a midrange speaker needs little to no enclosure to perform well.

what's the HP frequency for it?

is it easy to experiment and try it and see? you could also consider adding in dacron or similar to see if that helps if you seal it up behind.

i wouldn't not expect any issues with reflections from behind.

:)

In my previous 3 way setups, I also had a 4" Total Recoil (custom built) driver that was actually made from a Kicker basket.

All my other setups has used a sealed midrange so it wasn't an issue. Depending on the frequencies however you may find that such a small driver would prefer a smaller sealed enclosure. It really comes down to trial and error.

As shiny suggested, if it is only performing mid-range duties (unless you have it running down low with an overlap) it's probably not an issue, but I would definately suggest a couple of those Focal deflection pad "thingys", even if just for peace of mind :) for how simple they are to install.

Are you runing active or passive? Do you have the ability to manipulate the crossover points?

I often found some overlap on crossover points much more effective in producing a smoother transition between drivers. I guess it depends on your slope too though.

I found with SQ, there is a certain amount of theory involved (as with anything mind you), but 9 times out of 10 you will extract the most from your setup by many hours of simple trial and error.

It is running as a dedicated midrange in conjunction with a 6.5" midbass and 1" tweeter. the mid sees 3k - 300htz. It is quite simple to adjust the crossover point, can all be done from the drivers seat through the DSP.

I will give it more of a play.

Ok, its done. It does seem to make a little difference angling the mid. I got about 10 degrees more angle and in conjunction with some more sound deadning comes up nicely. Now its just a case of playing with the crossover frequency's to see if it makes a difference.
