I am looking at buying either one of these subs and was wondering which one you would think would be more suited to my system. It consist of a Alpine 9815 + Focal 165K2P + Alpine MRV-T420 and MRD-M1000 (1123wrms @ 2 ohm). I listen to dance music only (hard house, nrg , tech house , house) so I need something that is very fast and also something that is going to punch me right in the back of the head aswell, I do not want the sub to be musical in anyway at all. Just hard, fast and tight. I have a budget of around $700.

All help will be great.

The image dynamics IDQ will outperform the JL in my opinion not by that much though. In a small-ish ported tuned around say 30hz it will definitely outperform the JL.

Ported is louder with the same power, and the sub moves less when compared to sealed. The IDQ sounds awesome ported :)

Where as the JL is not 100% suited to a ported box. Also the ported box will have to be much larger with the JL sub.

um, i think you would like to sound musical, or else it won't suit listening to music. unless of course dance music ain't music.

both subs are excellent. more important will be the box design to suit your needs:
*size to fit into the car
*sealed vs ported

the IDQ will go in either a sealed or ported box. i suspect you'd prefer a sealed design to suit hard hitting 'fast' performance; but a properly designed subbox can be equally as good.

with a budget of $700 are you suggesting you are considering other subs too? cos neither cost anywhere near that.

An extra $100 can get you an IDMAX 12 easily with some haggling maybe less if you are good at it. Perfect with the mrd-m1000. It is the exact combo that i have. You'll love it. However it is an extra $100.

yea shiny_car what I meant was that some subs just are to musical for dance music and that is not what i want (it really hard to explain what i mean there) and yes I am also thinking of maybe getting 2 type r 12" or 2 IDQ10D2 V.2 aswell but not sure. Can anyone else reconmend any subs that will love 1123wrms and sound very very tight and loud aswell?????????

i'm sure there's plenty of subs that would suit your needs:
*IDMAX as mentioned
*JL audio 12W6
*diamond audio M6 series
*PG titanium series
*digital designs

so much choice. the more important thing will be to design and build a suitable box for the sub you buy. and design it for the sound you like.

i'd go a single 12inch IDMAX for sure if budget allows. Very nice sub.

Also check out Digital Designs they have some very nice subs. A single 3512 can take 1600wrms and is just in ur price range.

im an electronic man myself (techno, progressive, abit of trance, electro ect) and i own a 12" IDQv2. It in a 1.25 cuft box, and i am quite pleased with it. On well recorded basslines, it hits the notes nice and clear. However i feel when the basslines become complex the sub starts making crap sounds. But on that topic, i ve never heard a sub that plays all derivatives of techno well. Imo techno, prog, electro, trance and so forth are the hardest styles of music for a sub to play. The complexity of the beats can be overwhelming. Overall i say the IDQv2 is better than than the JLw3 tho. i know what sort of bass your after and unfortunately im yet to find it.
