I'm not asking which one is better as only I can decide that.
I was keen to hear peoples' feedback about the sound from each one. I've owned the Boston Pro 6.5's and so I'm very familiar with their sound.
How do the Dyns compare tonally (is the bass as strong and punchy and is the treble more laid back and smooth or is it more "harsh")? I don't have the opportunity to listen to some just yet and may not be able to for a little while.

How do the System 340's (3 ways) compare to the 2 way Dyns?

i run the 'mkI' system240's, which differ mostly in the passive xover design rather than drivers. as such, sound 'the same'. i very much like the sound of them; i consider them slightly less bright compared with the boston's. however the boston's offer a certain 'zing' to the treble/upper midrange that the dyn's ever so slightly smear. nothing terrible at all, but probably the trade-off for a nice non-aggressive sound.

however, the weakness of the dyn's IMO remains the treble (for slight lack in clarity rather than brightness/level) but for my personal tastes the boston's aren't perfect for me either. as such, i'm awaiting time to install different tweets.

if you can afford and install the 3-way dyn's i would consider this a worthy option. it should life the vocals considerably. this is also part of my soon-to-be upgrade.

but, for 2-way setups, i enjoy the dyn very, very much and highly recommend them. they are also good value for the quality of the sound.
