Well planing my front stage ive come to the point of speaker locations. The setup will comprise of

Morel HCW8
Morel CDM54
MBQuart 1"tweeter (temporary)

each side.

The car is a 1997 EL Fairmont, and i see that i have 3 choices.

1) 8's in the doors (pods) with the 3.5"+tweeters in the kicks.
2) 8's in the doors (pods0 3.5" and tweeter in stock location (angled)
3) 8's 3.5 and tweeter in a pod at the base of teh door.

The system is activly powered via 2x Orion XTR600.4's so power or crossover flexability is not an issue.

What would peoples thaughts be on this issue. the main problem, i see is that the kicks arent overly deep, with the ECU behind the passanger kick and the accelrator being very close to the drivers kick.

Ill get some pics up to show the layout very soon.

Cheers

.... and I will be following this closely, as I'm in the process of getting the wife an EF Ghia.

What tweeters are you going to go to eventually? No use building awesome pods then trying to tack on a Supremo or an Esotar tweet.

Also, if the stock locations are high up in the doors, you'll be wanting to keep that tweeter nice and close to the 3.5"..........

Kick panels in fords probably haven't changed much since the XD ;) - bugger all room next to the accelerator. Incar Phil said once that you can move/adjust/chop the pedal and give your self a bit more clearance, but it still sounds like a fair job. But the flip side is: 3 way pods can be massive!

I think I'm a little over supreme setups :(

6 months with a new car, and I've got an amp and a set of front speakers.

Or I could just be lazy.

If you were not going with the Supremo i am selling my Custom A-pillars that took me quite some time to build to suit ef,el falcon. They house my Focal Utopia tweeters and I will be selling the pods and tweeters together.

I have them used with the 4" Focal Utopia midrange (in the factory locations), on an angled MDF pod and imaging and staging are excellent. (I scored 5/5 4/5 & 4/5 for width, height, depth of soundstage in Amateur Show class at Melb Autosalon).

$300 if anyone wants them and ill be looking at selling in about 2-3 weeks.
I can e-mail pic's if anyone is interested.

any way back on topic. Id love to see some pics of these A pilars as they may be what im looking for. Even for use as ambiant tweeter locations (To rase stage height). Also where did you put your midbass drivers? Any pics of your door trim.

Here are some pics of the door trims and kick locations to get some brain storming.

Just an idea, as its an auto, can u bend both the brake pedal and accel pedal across to open up the kickpanel space a bit. (Don't nee space for clutch)

Had to bend the pedals in my car as my big bum feet would push the brake and accelerator sometimes with shoes on. (NOT GOOD! ) Not that hard to do... Just need a good bench vice...

Nice gear by the way!

"either suprimos or revilators"

hi wilkinshaw

those are great tweeters..but they are quite big

if you want something a little smaller with great sound i can recommend the scanspeak D2904/600000 this gives you a bit more room for mids in the kicks. But off axis the morel supremos might have the advantage due to the dome shape (this is speculation at this stage since i have not used the supremo tweeter).

I did a bit of research into EF/EL doors for my MB Quart and Canton 8/4 splits a while ago. Best sounding setup I've heard is 8 down the bottom, 4 on an MDF baffle in stock location, tweeter in factory location in the dash. The whole bottom section of the door trim would be chopped off and replaced with a vinyl covered MDF baffle. Should even be able to stick the bottom part of the trim back on when you go to sell the car. The Canton tweeters sound fantastic in the dash but I doubt the Quarts would have. Canton tweets are so mellow and flat that the reflection from the windscreen is not harsh. Keep in mind this is all being run with time alignment. The kicks are pretty terrible. I heard of someone in an EA fitting 8s down there but that's just rediculous! Stick with the factory location for your mids, they are great and very stealthy.
