I'm considering my options for fronts before I even get a car, reason being, is I'll probably choose a car that will fit them best :)

now, I'm considering Peerless, mainly because as far as I can see, noone else has used them, I'll more that likely have to go with the 8ohm versions though, as I am yet to find the 4 ohm drivers in Australia.

Now, I'll most likely go with 6.5inch woofers, and tweeters, but I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions as to which ones, I currently have a pair of 8inch peerless woofers that I was considering using, but they really need to large an enclosure to get down to 80Hz, and I am not going free air :P

any suggestions would be good....

another problem is grills :P

personally id choose vifa over the peerless car audio drivers.

vifa speaker grills can be ordered from places like madisound.

the peerles car audio stff use to be sold at the store i worked at. For the ce they were average. Id rather spend a bit more on something like boston acoustics or vifa.

best of luck

yeah... well... I wasn't going to use the Peerless car speakers... I was going to use the house ones... :P I was also considering Vifa, but the ones I was looking at had paper cones... hmm..

EDIT: the Vifa woofers I am now looking at are better than the other ones... they don't have a paper cone, and cost less than the Peerless woofers I was looking at...

Jas, which would you go with?

the 8inch Peerless 850136's
http://www.d-s-t.com/peerless/data/850136.htm

or the 6.5inch Vifa P17WJ-00-08
http://www.d-s-t.com/vifa/data/p17wj-00-08a.htm

I already have a pair of the Peerless 8inch woofers... and they'll fit nicely in the front doors of an EA or EB falcon :D

hmm.....

with home audio speakers, maybe think about condensation and heat in regards to elemental issues?
esp with woofers in the doors where moisture build up may happen a bit...
add scotchguard spray on top could be something, but it may change the weight of the cone where it may be audible

well, I was hoping to have the woofers totally seperate from the inside of the door... I was hoping to make tuned pods.... but they have to be too large for 8inch woofers.... so, I may just port into the doors.... either way, it'll be fine.. :) probably TRY and mount some 8ohm house tweeters in the stock speaker locations.... hopefully angle them, but the stock locations are behind the window winders :)

with a plastic cone like the vifa no worry about water issues.

ive read in a few forums that people use the vifa in an ib situation.

is the peerless plastic or paper??

but since you have the peerless use it and see how you go

maybe try to use a shield and some gortex to try and stop water from getting to the rear of the speaker. Get out some fibreglass and that should be no probs.

there is another way as well

i think ive got the email address of a guy in perth that may have some vifa car products left. ....but it costs money...id just use what you have.

I don't actually have to cut into ther door behind the speaker (which is what I was trying to say before) theres a countersunk, kinda rebate in the doors about 7cm deep maybe, and I am making the pod totally cover these "hole" :) so, IF I vent it into the door, I will make the opening at the other end of the hole to where the speaker mounts.... ahh, forget it... lol

ok... IF I do this (I'm going to start work on the pods, the question is weather I'll actually install them or not) I'll mount the tweeters in the stock speaker locations, and NOT angle them :) they have a pretty good off axis response :)

Ur just making it hard for urself going with those drivers.

Theres maybe a reason why no one buys peerless drivers for car use...

Im running 8inchers in sealed 8litre enclosures in my doors, ur not gonna fit this setup unless u go with power windows, make new door trims or have pods that are so big you cant close the door.

Take a step back and just use normal 6.5's venting into the door with a basic pod.

the only reason I suggested the 8's was because I have already designed pods for them to fit.. :D with enough clearance for the window winder (I think) yes, I know an 8litre sealed enclosure is going to be a PIG to make fit in the door, but who cares? :P I may just vent them into the doors :P

I already have the 8's.. so.... may as well start making the pods, and see if they clear the window winders :D

these Peerless woofers suck.... if you go by the measured specs, rather than the ones given by the manufacturer, they're good for nothing... they suit no enclosure I may wish to use.... grrr.... like, the 8inch Venoms in sealed 4 litres are nice and punchy... but model the Peerless in the same box, and they SUCK! :P

ummm how bout instead of modelling them in programs, u go test em out in real life. Programs give 1/16th of f.uck all indication of what it will actually sound like.

how about....... I know how the venoms model, and what they sound like in real life....

I know how the peerless models, and know it won't be anywhere near as punch as I want :P
