running a 935 but will most likely be goin up to the new one with touch screen, from what i have been told they are the same unit but with MP3, ability to turn off the internal amp, diferent face and a few other trick bits.
still the same DAC, pre outs and Dolby decoder.

personally I thnk that the new DZX946MP which is the touch screen model may sound nice but functionality wise they are crap..

the touch screen works but you have to slide your fingers over teh screent o do anything...

gimme the VRX935VD 7" touch screen and I'll be happy.. as its also DVD with the 24bit DACs..

the HXD2 should be nice tho.... but it does have a $2199 pricetag for a very simple CD player..

cheers

I'm running the Clarion 945MP at the moment (It is the US version of our 946MP. I couldn't wait for it and the states got it quite a bit earlier than we did).

The touch screen does take a bit of getting used to at first, but once u get used to it it's very natural and I find that the menus are really easy to access and everything seems to be laid out quite logically. I can adjust the important things like seating position and subwoofer level quite quickly, and that's pretty much all I need to change on a regular basis.

The functions on the 945 are excellent. I don't know how much diff they are from the 935's...I don't think much at all. But the ability to control gains and time alignment for each individual speaker (including centre speaker and 2 subwoofers if you have them) is bloody fantastic. It gives me a hell of a lot more to play with on my long drives. You can save presets for 5 different seating positions, which is perfect for your average 5-seater. (And way too many for my 4 seater...)
I think there are also 5 presets for the parametric EQ settings. It's a 3band para EQ and the frequencies and Q's you can select are very flexible (ie. there are a S#!7load of them).

I'm not a big fan of the display though..they're quite nice..but I prefer a simpler look. A lot of other people though have told me that it's a really good lookin H/U.

Anyway, the SQ is great, significantly better than my old Clarion 835MP (and that was a DAMN good unit too). The internals are pretty much the same, it's just the improved tune-ability that the 945MP offers that makes it sound better.

Anyway, I still got a lot to learn about it...I'm sure I can still make it sound quite a bit better after some more tuning.

Highly recommended...

Just like a lot of other people..I was waiting for a 935 replacement that offered MP3 functionality, and it's about damn time that Clarion released it.

i have the 925, love the thing. i dont listen to mp3's so never really missed that feature. the new touch screen looks pretty funky in how it lets you set things out according to taste. if the sound quality of the new ones is anything like the 925/935 should be a worthy headunit. though i reckon the double-face of the previous ones is neat, always drops jaws, haha, and having the face plate be so thin and the dial layed out in the centre and facing upwards is nice and convenient.

now if clarion can just stop their headunits from getting so hot for no apparent reason, there will be harmony in the universe.

I'll be recieving three 04 Clarion's for use and reviews in a couple of days from Clarion Oz. These include the DXZ946MP for installation in the Auto Salon Giveaway car (MR2), a DXZ846MC with Music-Catcher for a review about HD head units, and a HXD2 to act as my own reference unit to replace my much loved DRX-9255.

Ahh, being a journo, it has its moments...
