the actual best quality product i've used would be dynamat xtreme, but this is costly and not greatly better than serenity max.

It is a bit more expensive but you can generally screw them down to give you a good price.

All you are doing is adding weight to the offending panels so it really doesn't matter what you use.
I don't think there is any difference really (unless you are concerned about the smell)
I think the Dynamat Xtreme works best in really hot areas, as some of the others have adhesives that aren't up to the task on hot days and the sheets fall off!
CSR Readymix is another good one, it can b a little heavy sometimes though! LOL (This is concrete)

From what i can understand some deadeners works by converting the vibrating/ sound energy to heat energy

Yes it converts vibrations to low level heat.
Tuneman has used some in his car.
Forgot that it even existed for a while there.

1 convert to heat
2 add mass and so given same energy is aplied, it will resonate at a lower freq, hopefully below audibilty
3 Brace. If it cant move it cant resonate.
Many deadners use a combination of the above methods.
roadkill, brown bread basically add mass
roadkill pro, dynamat extreme convert some energy to heat, brace slightly and add a slight mass
RF noisekiller blue, sound off etc mostly convert to heat.
I prefer dynamatt extreme/roadkill pro or noisekiller blue types, as they have least weight to effectivness ratio, and they stick regardless of heat issues. As my car feels every bit of weight added, having light but effective SDing is important to me.
I prefer to use roadkill pro, as its great to work with. on easy access areas like floors internal door skin etc, but prefer spray on/scrap on, in hard to reach places like inside doors, rear gaurds etc.
