I recently blown my tweeters due to poor xover design. I will have to buy a new pair very soon. Just want to ask for other opinion which way should I go. I currently use Scanspeak 9700 in my setup.

Revelator is called series9900 not 7000. The 7000 is not revelator series.

First question, how do you gonna run the scanspeak??? Full active doesn't work well. You have to build a custom passive crossover.

I used to have revelator series in my car. It is not an easy tweeter to work with. The staging is TOO wide and you can't do much about it. It meant to be in a home theather where there are quite distances between your ears and tweeter. Moreover, it is hard to find the right amplifier to run 'em. I used to run them with Butler but it was too dry. Then i change to ARC audio. Its better coz it is more mellow and warm but not as warm as audison.

Then I decided to change to 7000 series. It is much easier to work with. However you have to spend quite number of dollars for the custom passive. And you have to choose the right component or else its not gonna sound sweet.

Why don't you stick with ss9700??? it is so much better in the car than the revelator series.

Well scanspeak 7000 is the cussesser of 9900. 9900 is the first generation of revelator series. then 2-3 years ago they were replaced by the rev.7000. the one with phase plug in the middle. damn nice tweeter but cost big bucks. by the way if you are still using passive try to check out a range of passive xover caps from audionote from UK or kimber-kaps from USA. those are the topnotch components.

Well, I really have to know which is missing from your system? using expensive components doesn't mean you are going to have a good sounding system. in some situation, a 50 cents cap will work better than the Hovlan or kimber. it all depend on what you are missing from your system. a spacific cap have its own charactor ie.. electrolytic = big and grainy, kimber= speedy and brite, audionote= highly detailed on the top end and Hovlan = smooth and accurate, Bennic= airy and harsh, Panasonic microwave caps= very dull.

the best bet is to try everything on the market. you will soon discover that the best sounding system doesn't always have to use the most expensive components. now what is too much from your system?

Have you heard it? Personally I think the tweeter's too bright. Not exactly harsh sounding, but it's not as smooth as well. Great transient response and frequency extension, however. Maybe it's because of the tweeter's ceramic cone, and it has the ability to be crossed-over around 500 Hz, which is pretty damn low for a tweeter.

Cheers,

Bon
