Instalation is the only facter i reccon.

To install the 3ways will cost heaps more, to pay someone to install. The 2ways can fit in the factory spots.

If your installing everything yourelf then the 3ways will definitley be better. However if you have to pay someone $300 to make custom kicks or pods then The 2ways will be heaps cheap, so u could spend more money on the 2ways which will kick bum.

Let's say installation is the same price as well. And the installer is very experienced with both 2 way and 3 way. Still 3 way sound better?

Like all things it does come down to what you like, but in my opinion, the 3 ways have a better blend of midrange to tweeters (because the midrange isn't having to reproduce low frequency's, and they have better midbass because you have a dedicated midbass driver.

90% of the sound comes down to installation, and 3 ways are muh harder to get right, so IMO 2 ways are better :)

While I've done the 2 way Vs 3 way comparo - the 3 ways had a bit more midrange and a bit more midbass.

I still prefer a nice set of 2 ways but with the 3 ways, depending on that car and install, it might actually be easier to get a good image with them.

Its a lot easier to install a tweet and a 3" or 4" mid range and image them that to install and image a 6.5" and a tweet - like in my car, I had the tweet and 4" in the kicks. 6.5" won't fit in the kicks and give me enough pedal room.

Bye.

it's a tough call,
the 3 ways (if installed optimally) should image better, and because they aren't required to play a large range of frequencies, it's easier to make them sound good.

however, installation will play the biggest part.
if the 3 ways are installed poorly, then the 2 ways will be considerabyl better.
installing 2 ways isn't much of an issue for anyone, an angled spacer/pod and a location for a tweeter.
installign 3 ways involves lots of custom work, and organising your doors/kickpanels/dash to suit the drivers.
don't think "i can fit the 4 inch speaker here" cause chances are it wont sound good there.
generally they work best in kick panels, if you can fit the tweeter and midrange in there, then it might be worthwhile going for 3 ways. i tried mounting mine in my doors, and it didn't sound anywhere near as good.

Hi

Thanks for your replies..

The polyglass 156V3E comes with the slim 100V 4" so it should be suitable for kickpanel.... BUT.. how do you all find space in there? I don't mind putting there...but looks like I don't have enough depth to clear away from my accelerator.

Anyone with pics of their kickpanel (driver side please)....???

I'm fitting 3-way MB Quarts in my Micra right now. I'm half done. Just a real tiny amount of metal had to be cut from the door to fit the 4" in. no structural damage was done in the process.

all in the doors too... 6" in factory location, 4" just above that, tweeter also just above that. Initial testing of the sound is fairly good (the sound stage). however it was tested using some speaker level outputs on a deck, they'll be amped and the doors will be deadened.

some "so far" pics are here:
http://www.micra.hl.com.au/messages.asp?me...messageID=10325

I'll see how it sounds when it's deadenned and amp'd before I look at possibly enclosing the 4" off from the rest of the door. It might be okay.

They arent angled in any way, I've played with these speakers heaps, including in another car, and I've found they've always sounded better off axis, especially the tweeters....

awesome install

i didnt even know what a micra was until this post

wow its a really small car, might even be smaller than my mothers echo

its amazing how much can fit in a small door when you want to make it fit :-)

is there any room in the kicks for a 4inch mid and a tweeter????

great effort and keep up the good work :-)

thanx, yeh I've only had the car for 1 week ! hahahaha. I bought a micra because it's the only other small car that I liked that would fit in my garage with my other cars. (had to be less than 3900mm long!) sounds silly but yeh no crap. It's my daily driver, so will cop the tunes. :)

the doors are large, as most 2-door cars have large doors. the car is very spacey inside! nice 1.3ltr twin cam motor, kinda like an sr20, only smaller.

yes you could easily put mids and tweets in the kicks. I already made fiberglass ones for my pulsar. I cant be arsed doing it in the micra. There's a small amount of wiring behind the passenger side kick too which i couldnt be bothered re-routing. When i discovered that it wouldnt be too hard to fit all the speakers in the doors, I went for it.

I'll be updating that link as I go along :)

I wanted to keep this car real lightweight so i dont loose performance, but it's not easy as everyone knows when your doing an install. I probably wont fit the JL12W6, I'll prolly go a tenner or something. fiberglass tyrewell install possibly, etc.

Top stuff...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it really easy to put the mid and tweeter at the kickpanel? My accelerator and the plastic piece is only like an inch away...

i honestly dont know i havent had a propper look into it. I spose because I'm fitting them in the doors, I'm not bothered about the kickpanels...

remove the kickpanels and see for yourself!
