Hi Guys. Over the next month or so I will be trying to finallise a nice SQ based ly under system. I seem to be having great trouble deciding on components so I thought I'd come to the professionals :) Before we start, let me just say that despite my history in the industry (as some may know) I have no brand preference (apart from quality).

First up I'm looking for some subwoofer advice. The guidelines are:

- 2 x 10"
- must like small boxes (will be inside the cabin of the ute)
- fairly shallow mounting
- definate $1k rrp per sub

It would be appreciated if we could restrict the topic purely to subs (hopefully we can address the rest later). Amps have not be selected and will be chosen on the basis of best powering the subs.

Look forward to hearing your opinions guys!

Paul

$1K per sub for SQ?

2 JL 10W6v2's would be my pick. They're around $800 per sub from memory...probably less for street price.

Work fantastic in small enclosures and SQ can't be beat by most subs out there....esp ones that are under the $1K mark.

2 x 10W3v2's would sound pretty damn good as well, and they're only about $300 a pop..

Why dont you look at Rockford Fosgate,

They make a 10inch T1 which is rated at 600rms and only needs .75 cubic feet for sealed and 1 cubic foot for ported

Also they have 8 inch subs which fit in a .35 sealed or .68 ported

I know the Eights have a really shallow mounting depth as my friend wanted to put 4 under the back seat of a mini

Their new stuff looks mad

Two Kicker Solobaric L7 10 inch woofers.

These woofers work really well in small sealed enclosures. (0.75ft3 gross)

This would come in well under budget too.

The two woofers would be about $1000 street price.

Errr... he wants a SHALLOW mounting depth... the MAX and JLw6 do not have shallow mounting depths

Actually, I doubt u'll find many subs that are shallow and have a $1k RRP... Maybe the Focal Utopia?

Focal Utopia is a perfect choice.

11inch Focal Utopia suits all the requirements. They have a fairly shallow mounting depth, Suit small box's inc ported.

I would concentrate on making sure the subs are being powered properly. You'd want atleast 1000wrms PER sub. If you cant afford the power then maybe spend a bit less on your subs.

Cheers for the suggestions guys. It would seem a typo has created a slight misunderstanding - I was meant to say a MAXIMUM of $1k rrp per sub. I am more than happy to spend less, I just don't want to spend more :)

I don't see any reason I should need 2000wrms just because I want good subs - not all high priced subs require huge power. They will get somewhere around 500 to 750wrms of quality power I should imagine anyway.

Anyways, keep any suggestions rolling in - they will all be taken into consideration.

QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

IDQ's have a reasonably shallow mount. Also, most of the Focal subs have shallow mounts.

I really think DD subs r way to go, their bottom of range sonds awesome, but depending on how much power u r goin to give them depends on what range u should get. i used to have 35-15's with 700wrms each, and they are about 900$ish each i think but they can easily take more power than that as anybody with them knows, but much above 1000-1200wrms and then you should seriously consider going to next range up of 9515's or 9510's in your case. i went with 4000wrms and a 9915 :) so yes u can get good subs to sound good off lil power, but no point getting subs capable of handling 4000wrms if u only givin them 700 then just get models made for that coz they will sound close, just won't go as loud and stuff. u wouldn't stick a 5" exhaust on a 1.5 litre lancer :) hope this helped

heard bostons are good for no space too

I beg to differ..I have seen more than my fair share of hardcore ricers out there who insist on trying to compensate for their d!cks by beefing up their fully sick 69kw Lancer GLi.

Nothing against lancers...there's just some things (like a 5" exhaust tip) that belong somewhere more useful.

Anyway that was way off topic...back to the thread.

I had a single Morel HCW10 very shallow mount depth, its like 68mm, and they can handle up to 1000wrms and u can pick them up for about $350 each. or try the new morel range.

For my experience, Focal Utopia works better in a BIG box... but it will work in a small box too... however, on top of my head is 10" Concept EX series... It doesn't have a magnet like IDMAX or Brahma, the recommended sealed box is 0.7cuft. Decent amount of power around 300watt will do... I used to have a pair of 10" Concept Ex series and run them with Xtant x1001d... they are incredible... the price, i bought them for $600 for two early this year in overseas... so i'm not sure about the distributor in australia...

Second option would be phase linear aliante... nice SQ sub... www.phase-linear.de... decent amount of power needed and works in a small box...

Next option would be ADS R10s... but i don't know much about the ADS...
