Hi guys,
I've got a Hilux dualcab, and I'm stumped on what I should get. As I'm not able to go and listen to speakers and subs in person, I'm going to ask you guys to recommend me:

5.25" front speakers
10" subwoofer

Now, my budget is approximately $600-700, so lets go guys, recommend me what you think is best!

Cheers :D

If you have the current model Hilux you can fit 6.5" splits in the front doors with no worries...perhaps a pair of MB Quart Reference 6" splits @ $599 or a pair of Focal 165KP's @ $770 or one of my favourites the Alpine SPX-177A's for about $699.

All prices quoted are RRP and of course a better price can be negotiated on the street

As for a 10" sub...perhaps a Phoenix Gold Octane R 10", Alpine Type S, Rockford Fosgate P-2 10" are some to consider

:)
Don't argue with an idiot...they will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

I can vouch for two of these speakers....

I have the Alpine SPX-177A's in my Mirage and they where an absolutely brilliant speaker for around $500.00 although I did power them with 2 Alpine MRV-T420 so they where getting alot of power.

As for the Focals in my current set up due to size and space restrictions I have got a set of Focal 165KP2's and they do sound nice, different sound to the Alpines again.

These speakers are available for around $700ish and the Alpine are around $500ish

[EDITED] Sorry I didn't read your first post right about not been able to audition them! Opps....

Cheers,
Matt

I put DD 6.5s into a new Hilux and they're one of the biggest 6.5s you'll ever see! I welded a longer bolt onto the window track, moving the glass further into the door in order to clear the huge magnet structure. Fitting "normal" sixes desn't require anywhere that much effort!

I'd definately fit 6s, much more midbass.

Look at Diamond Audio, Boston Acoustics etc.

Sub wise you'll need something that will work in a small box, again look to Diamond, Boston or our new DD 1010.

Cheers for the answers guys.
I have a PG QX300.4 amp that does 70RMS per channel and 150RMS bridged, both at 4OHM.
Since I already have 5.25" in the doors, I'd like to just be able to directly put new speakers in the doors as well.
Also, I keep hearing of subs over 5" in depth not able to be used behind the back bench seats? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

The way to to a box behind the seat is to construct the sides and front from MDF, then make the back from fibreglass in the car.

This gives a much bigger enclosure and heaps more mounting depth.

That said I've built all MDF boxes and still managed to fit decent 10s.

Thanks for all the help Phil :D
I'll take a look at the space more carefully sometime this week, using the sub I have now to see how I can go with box made entirely of MDF. It has the same mounting depth as the 2010 so I'll test before I buy I guess.
