I m sure many of you have DSP equipped in your system and others not.
Can anyone tell me what is the difference or GAIN you would get if you put in a DSP? I have listened to a car with DSP and i heard no difference in sound when i turn my head in the car. Time alignment thing theory, distance between speaker and ears, I sort of know about it ... does it mean that if I have installed a DSP I do not have to worry about placement of speaker?
Is it better to buy a individual DSP unit or those DSP inbuilt into the unit (eg Pioneer DEX-P1) is equally good?
My thought is that .... for good SQ you need the signal to be as clean & pure as possible ... to give the best source signal then good SQ, but DSP process sound signal and sort of "digitalise" it .... still good ? Or just a different kind of good ?
Very confused .... and someone pls clear me up .....

Just don't think DSP will turn your car into a church, hall or stadium. IMO, you are not going to gain out of it.

thanks ...
to be more exact i m more interested in the listening position thing
(ie FR, FL, Front, all) etc ....
is that going to make huge difference ?
thanks.

although its all dsp, dsp usually refers to prest effects like hall church etc, and listening posistion would be included in that...The effects like hall etc arent any good IMO and the listening position cant do much either but is similar to a 5 band EQ in that it might help a little but more than likely a better eq will be needed.
The thing that can benefit a system is time alignment(TA), but it still really needs a well set up system to get the most out of it. This can be used to help minimise speaker placement issues but cant make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.
Anyway my advice would be go for a good CD player and forget dsp unless its a unit that can have a proper TA unit added. The preset DSP stuff is not something I would consider. IF SQ is why you are buying a system then go for a player that is well known for being SQ focussed rather than one with lots of features. Most ppl never use the features but ppl always love great sound
