Hey all... Time for a nice little friendly tech debate thread.

What, in your opinion, is the ONE thing to optomise to get increased SQ on a sub... for instance, if you had a well built normal sub, solidly constructed, lightish cone, strongish motor, etc, nothing crappy, what single thing would you change in the design to make the SQ better?

Me personally, i'd make sure the inductance of the coil is as low as possible while still maintaining a good XMax... lower inductance = less resistance to current change = faster transient response and a higher inductive rolloff, easing the integration with your midbass drivers :)

Post away :D

i wouldent change anything about my SQ sub, last SQ comp i went in cyberpunky got out and said the bass was spot on.
it played to 130db on a termlab meter.
so i really dont need it any louder for a dedicated SQ sub, it will play louder than the front stage but why would i want any louder otherwise it isent a good sounding SQ system, it would be bass heavy.
it intergrates very well with my mid bass speaker's, even more so when i was running the eton's

so far as im concerned my sub is perfect :D

Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

the XXX is the closest thing to perfect i've ever heard, maybe i'm jsut hard to please.
if it was 3db more efficient i wouldn't mind... or 10kg lighter...
but then i've have to comprimise on SQ, so it's not worth it.

Improving the efficiency would either sacrifice the frequency response, or require a larger enclosure.

Reducing the overall weight is technically possible, but would likely make it way more expensive.

If the subwoofer fits the following criteria, then I'd change nothing.

- If it has a smooth in-car frequency response and can handle adequate power (ie, enough power to play loud enough for the application) without any audible distortion due to lack of xmax or due to significant thermal power compression.

The other factor that I would consider is will the required enclosure fit in the space available?
If in doubt, do a search and then ask questions!

but how can i make a sub better when it is already perfect to me??

of course i would like to to run of 200wrms and do 170db while im cuising. but thats just not SQ is it?

and it's just a lowly cheepo boston pro 10.5lf (and running of 220wrms)

but hey, it's an SQ system it dont need to be loud!
