Hey Rick, how about this sexy beast?

i wonder what these go for these days in the immaculate condition this one is in sitting on my bench :D

whao. indeed that looks immaculate! what a piece. :thumb:

acquaz: the 7909 is legendary as starting the whole alpine SQ range of HUs, culminating in the 7990 that you see today. it was the bees-knees of SQ back in the.....hmm, a long time ago. i've never seen one in the flesh, but they are like an old lamborghini: always relished.

The E denotes european spec. A lot of alpine units sold here are E spec as we use same freqs etc...no idea on the L although there was a re-release of the 7909 and so it may denote its the limited edition re- release model *shrugs*

BTW Alpine was formely Alps electronics, a division of motorola and so uses the same model part number system as motorola does

stormy arent you able to change the illumination on that model to green?

they should have been dual colour illumination...

I also had that impression. But, i got my unit 2nd hand, and so did my friend, and it both didn't come with the manual. Experimenting with the buttons also didn't reveal this feature as well.

now that you've mentioned it, anyone out there who knows how?

there should be a button that you have to hold down for a few seconds which might be labelled ILL.

Yup, it's the power button depressed for a few seconds to reveal additional options. No button was available for changing illumination :(
