Everybody's got different tastes in speakers. For me Accuton is accurate, but there's something about it that I find...odd. Like, it's too clean, too sterile...how do I put it...too crispy?
I noticed that you're using an Apogee DAC. I don't suppose there's someone out there selling a mint condition, 2nd hand, attractively priced Apogee Mini DAC, is there? How do one proceed in wiring the Mini DAC, just a straight, normal 12V connection? Because I've read that the Mini DAC is 12 volt-ready.
Btw, my system is fully active. I just feel that by going active I have greater control over it (can change settings on the fly), and I guess that's the only reason why.
Cheers,
Bon
PS: By the way, while on the subject on speakers, what do you think about the trend of using home drive units in cars? Do you see the merit in using them, or is it just a wasteful exercise?
Exactly my comments on Accuton. The Apogee mini dac is $1600 Aussie now. Never seen second hand ones. Yes runs b/w 8 and 16 volts.
Apogee l recon is the best D/A on the market FULL STOP, can't see the Apogee specs even in todays car audio.
PS my focals ( midbass ) are home units.

Back in the day, the availability of 12v devices particularly in equalisation simply wasn't there which is why home units were used in cars. Today there is a higher standard which is increasingly available dedicated for the 12v industry.
If there is a trend, it is a dying one.
To a certain extent i agree BUT are todays car units as good as the pro gear? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
STILL ON COAX ! NO BALANCED LINES ! LOW VOLTAGE SIGNALS ! SO WHERE has there been a move ? People are still not understanding what the should be looking for !
