well recently I just swapped my mate for his splits, it was for a favour he owed me for modding his 200sx...

well anyhow.. I'm wondering how they perform.. because I've searched the forums and found that there are no results for Soundstream EGC.5 components..

although the whole time he had the splits powered off the deck.. It didn't sound nice at all, but when I put my kelvars in.. OMG.. it sounded so great...

I hope I haven't done the wrong thing in swapping my Jaycar Kelvars for his Soundstreams..

although all I swapped was his crossover & woofer with mine.. I still got my Jaycar Kelvar Tweeters, as I was too lazy to take them out..

Has anyone used these before?
I'll be installing them during this week... when I can be bothered lol

if they suck, I'm going to ebay them off and return back to the kevlars.. they are the most best sounding speakers for that price that I've ever come across

The kevlars are better. They are beter than most $300 splits. I think the soundstreams are cheaper than $300.

have you heard both of them to comment maz?

put them in and have a listen, it's the only way you will find out :D
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

Yeah be interesting to see, I intend to run my kevlars active, so I can replace the harsh tweeter (off axis its ok, on axis ....)

I've chucked them in today...
I was kinda shocked.. they actually sound pretty decent..

my EQ is like all flat.. maybe plus 1+ on the 2K everything else is on zero...
also I set the crossover on -3.. sounds pretty decent...

but kind of dissappointed with the bass.... then again they are only 5.25" inch compared to the jaycar 6.5" inch...

well.. someone give me their opinion...
I've noticed no one uses soundstream components on this forum.. its all
jaycar, focals, bostons, etc.. etc...

Nothing wrong with the products!

Although personall, I wouldn't have though swapping a decent 6.5-inch for a better 5.25inch was a winning trade.

You need the cone size. Since the mate owes you a favour anyway, say it doesn't work for you and swap them back!

Whats the general opinion on the Jaycar splits? They're about $180, do others agree they're on a level with more expensive options?

for sure...
seriously I don't think I've heard a better pair of splits for that price..

as far as I can say, out of all my friends I think I have the best sounding system
running
- sealed 12" JLW3v2
- Jaycar 6.5" Kevlar Splits

they are a good all rounder...
but I'm just wanting people's opinions on soundstream, its not the talk at the moment like Focals and stuff...

but overall.. today is the 2nd day of the splits and overall I'm impressed with the clarity and all.. but just lacks mid-bass punch which the jaycars delivered..

any suggestions? I'm thinking of doing a 3-way setup for the front doors...

is it possible to upgrade on what I have? or should I scrap what I have and settle for a better set of splits...?? wanting pure SQ though

you could always buy a pair of 8" woofers, then run them with ur current set-up active for a 3-way front stage. the 8"s would provide u with the mid-bass u are now lacking

i used to run a pair of 6 1/2" soundstream pro p61 splits.i ran them on high pass and they were not too bad.they seemed to handle the heavier music pretty well.i also run a pair of soundstream spl12 subs.im kinda fond of them.

I like the kevlars, except the tweeters on axis sound pretty harsh, and I seem to be missing guitar fairly badly.

what do you guys mean run them 3-way active or 2-way active?

as in, don't use the component crossovers and hook up the tweeter straight to the amp and the woofer straight to the amp, each on a seperate channel... and hook up a external active crossover to the amp?

sorry I'm just use to installing speakers and then high pass them on the active crossovers.. just confused when people say run their tweeters active.. ???

well I tested my setup yesterday with some orchestra music... my Gord.. sounded so sweet... I got the tweeter attenuation on -3... coz I mounted my tweeters on the dash... for a stealth look =)

my EQ is set up completely flat... man I'm amazed these speakers are so clear....

would this affect the performance?
the speakers are 3ohm ( soundstream is weird ) any how I got the EGC.5 crossover + woofer which are all 3ohm, but I am running the jaycar 4ohm tweeter....

It will just mean that the xover points may be a little off as the caps/coils and what not inside a crossover are dependant on the ohm load it is being fed...
